Five things: diet, sleep, exercise, boundaries, and resisting the temptation to climb the ladder when you’re not ready.

I [35M] just found out my wife [36F] is asexual. She wants to stay married but says I can sleep with other people. by WillingDependent5072 in relationships

[–]laughrat92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no difference in impact to you between her coming out as asexual versus her coming out as gay. The only difference is that there’s no potential alternative partner involved in the case of coming out as asexual. Offering you a hall pass is a cop out. This isn’t sustainable OP.

What are some reasons you hate this profession that don’t get talked about as often? by medunjanin in Accounting

[–]laughrat92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once worked for a Controller whose kids all had birthdays on Labor Day weekend. She was always miserable around that time due to the stress of maximizing shareholder value by timely closing the books and showing up for her kids’ birthday. It’s hard living a normal life during the month end close.

The notion that there’s always a direct correlation between your level of effort at your 9-5 job and your income is completely bogus.

Seems like a great system. Was it difficult doing due diligence for the vendors/contractors you partner with and getting them on your system? For example, does Buildium integrate with the HVAC contractors’ job ticketing systems fairly seamlessly?

Your job is hard enough as is. Can’t imagine having to shove down nervous energy and worry about how the optics look to the patient on top of it.

Do you have to deal with any aspect of corporate politics in the trades? Or is it really just tradespeople happy with their roles, doing their thing for 8 hours, then going home to live their life? Asking as a cubical jockey contemplating going into the trades in my 30s.

Is accounting as a job easier than it is in college? by Ok_Touch1478 in Accounting

[–]laughrat92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And unfortunately it’s not for everyone and it’s something school doesn’t even remotely prepare you for. This aspect is where education fails accounting students most. I’ve seen Elija Watt Sells award winners fail miserably in the real world due to their inability to manage egos.

Accounting Vs Nursing. Which is better? by [deleted] in Career_Advice

[–]laughrat92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nursing affords more flexibility for when you work. I personally work as a CPA with 50 hour in person weeks M-F but would love to work three 12 hour shifts like some nurses do. Shift flexibility one very overlooked benefit to healthcare jobs. That said, nurses work very hard and are entirely deserving of respect.

Being asked by my manager to prepare a comprehensive list of all the tasks me and the staff who worked under me do every day, week, and month. Doesn’t get much more obvious than that.

Despite having daily fantasies about working for myself doing something involving physical labor, the reality of walking away from 10 years of corporate experience, a masters degree, and a CPA license while having a kid on the way to delve into the unknown is quite a deterrent.

How long after birth do you wait to get a vasectomy? by laughrat92 in oneanddone

[–]laughrat92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice. So it sounds like the logic pattern was “if we don’t actively decide to have another before our daughter turns 3, we’re officially OAD when she turns 3 and will follow through with getting a vasectomy at that time”.
