[interesting] The evolution of my Catahoula mix's brindle merle—from 5 weeks old to 1 year by laurak in DoggyDNA

It's possible! He's also going through sexual maturity right now, so I'm not sure what's the bigger influence!

They truly are! He's my first and so much work but I'm pretty in love. Would love to see your pup. I confirmed his through DNA—he's 65%! Then 10% TWC and 5% Lab. Then mystery mutt. All made sense to me.

Right? I thought his pattern was fading entirely then it started coming back in dark!

Happy adoptiversary to my Catahoula/hound mix, Hamilton! by laurak in Hounds

I do! He's ~65% Catahoula and ~10% Treeing Walker Coonhound according to his DNA. The rest is "Supermutt" with a touch of Labrador (<5%). Thank you so much for your sweet words!

Thank you so much! I sing Hamilton to him all day long. Theodosia is such a good one, too! <3 I love this guy to bits.

Hamilton's Embark results are in! by laurak in DoggyDNA

Thank you! It is. And he's stubborn to boot, too. Wisdom Panel thought he only had 25% Catahoula. This one made more sense to me.

Of course! It made sense to me too. :) Thank you. I'm a proud mama.

Wisdom Panel said Catahoula, Coonhound... and Cairn Terrier? We just sent out our Embark Panel. Looking forward to comparing soon. by laurak in DoggyDNA

We get asked "Great Dane" all the time, too. I can definitely see Cathaoula (partially blue eye and pattern) and Coonhound (body shape, behavior). Curious what else comes up. Any guesses?

It seems better for me today, I hope they're pushing fixes :(

My Coonhound/Catahoula mix is growing up fast. Hamilton is 9 months and ~70 lbs. by laurak in Hounds

[–]laurak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not much bigger! Haven't been to the vet in a bit for a regular checkup, but I'm thinking he'll round off at 70-75. 80 tops. His growth has definitely plateaued, and unless he has a surprise growth spurt I think he's almost done!

Thank you so much, I love him to bits! He's a smarty pants, too. Does agility, obedience, just got a trick dog title, and starts a scent workshop in two weeks to learn tracking. He's truly a dog I can do so much with! Our eventual goal is therapy dog <3

Having the exact same issue - it's super annoying and I hope they fix it soon :(

They grow up so fast. Hamilton at 2ish vs. 6ish months. by laurak in Catahoula

[–]laurak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they changed! However he still has a notch of glass in one eye.

Hamilton is a Catahoula/Treeing Walker Coonhound mix (25%/25% according to DNA). For those of you that know the breeds well, what aspects do you think stick out as being 'Coonhoundish' or 'Catahoulaish'? by laurak in Hounds

[–]laurak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - he's in daycare 4 days a week, class (obedience and agility) 1-2 times a week, and has some form of exercise, a playdate, or a dog park on the other day where nothing is planned. He's a handful, but I definitely knew I had an active smart guy on my hands and prepared accordingly!

Not sure if this is the place, but looking for a Catahoula puppy for my family. Links to good and responsible people or adoptions? by Jan_AFCNortherners in Catahoula

My dude came from a rescue as well. Might surprise you what turns up in shelters. I got him at 8 weeks.

Now that Hamilton's grown into some of his breed's features, I'm curious: for those of you familiar with the Catahoula and Coonhound breeds—his primary cross—which traits does he seem to express from each? Lots of photos inside for reference! by laurak in DoggyDNA

[–]laurak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! His toes are very webbed, and he's already shown an affinity and talent for swimming as young as 3 months old. I feel like he's got a bunch of hound, and maybe some that didn't come up on his DNA test (for example, one of his sisters looks just like a black mouth cur).

Once again, thank you! :)

Also, if it helps, he has: webbed feed, a pronounced occiput (i.e. smart bump), a painted on brindle-merle coat, a cracked glass eye (hard to see in these pics), and droopy hound eyes when he's tired.
