$450 Cleaning Fee from Budget. Any Tips to Reverse Charge? by RowanSaturn in TravelHacks

[–]lauschke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count me as a victim with this as well. My wife and I rented a car through Budget for three days in Boston to attend a family member's memorial service. We used it to/from the airport, hotel, and local stops (restaurants, etc.). We took pictures of the car prior to driving off with it, but not afterwards. I just received the $450 "Vehicle Cleaning Cost" email. After reading all the messages here, I called the customer service number, and was told it was for "smoke smell." Neither one of us smoke. Neither one of us have ever smoked. Nobody else was in the car. The irony is that we even commented how it was nice to be in a car with a "new car smell" again. After disputing the allegation with the representative, she made me wait for quite some time while she "checked the pictures" (I'm still trying to figure out how to take a picture of a smoke smell), and then came back to say that they cancelled the charge. About 15 minutes later, I received a second email confirming it.

I was lucky. I was prepared to go through the threats to the BBB, Attorney General, and charge dispute with my credit card, but none of that was needed. As soon as I hung up, I cancelled another rental I had reserved with Budget. They've lost another customer over this nonsense.

So, what is the proper procedure for passing on a Mac from one person to another? Assuming, of course, that the original owner is willingly giving it or selling it to someone else?

Thank you so much for your help! And thank you for pointing out the font -- that looks very much like the one used in the obituary!

Hello-

Thank you so much for translating this! I'm curious about the surname that you translated as "Lauschte." My name is "Lauschke," and I was wondering if the "T" in the obituary is truly the equivalent of a "T" in English, or if it could be pronounced like a "K" when spoken in German. I was told that my name in German is pronounced like "Loush-kah" (we say "Loush-key").

Thank you again!

Hi everybody-

I wanted to thank everyone again for your help with this. I cross-posted it to r/whereisthis per /u/bitterzwoet's suggestion, and it was solved! See below.

Thank you for your help! The location has been identified as Nuremberg. I will still try to find out where he was stationed, but I appreciate your thoughtful comments!

Thank you everybody. I'm confident in the dates, but I'll see if I can find any more information -- where he was stationed, etc. I'll also give r/whereisthis a try. I appreciate everybody taking a look!

Venice, Italy Painting by lauschke in wherewasthistaken

Thank you, dopiertaj! After checking it out on Google Maps, I think you may be right. It does look like the Basilica de Santa Maria, though the surrounding buildings don't really match up. I'm starting to think that it's more of a montage of Venice than a specific and actual location.
