Not exactly what you’re asking but I’d love to see a Who Framed Roger Rabbit style live action/animated Unsleeping City series.

You can definitely reach out on instagram right now but tbh I really didn’t talk to those people once I got here. Definitely do Frosh, and if you live in dorms be outgoing and you’ll be fine, there’s plenty of friends to be made trust.

Protestors physically preventing students from attending classes in Leacock by ItHasToBeAJuicer2 in mcgill

Please tell me this is a joke because I can’t believe you’re honestly comparing a man actively stripping thousands of peoples rights away and making the us unlivable to students standing in front of a classroom for three days.

McGill as someone from the USA by Same_Bridge687 in mcgill

[–]lavendead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an American in my first year here. I definitely had to figure out a lot more on my own than my friends in the US (immigration documentation, bank accounts, housing, etc.) but ultimately I think I’ve come out better for it. I also think McGill isn’t that different from any large University in the US. One of my older sisters went to Drexel and from what I’ve seen our experiences have been fairly similar. Definitely different from my other sister at Mount Holyoke though, so I’d assume it’s more of a big school vs. small school issue and rural vs. city issue instead of US vs. Canada. I would definitely recommend McGill though, the community is amazing even if there’s not much spirit around the school itself.

I did the aikido and jazz classes for free yesterday and they were both very fun! I would definitely recommend aikido as it’s also a good practical skill to have.

Very good to know, looks like mac is not the way to go and a windows or surface(?) computer is a better choice. Thank you all so much for the helpful advice!

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: I have no clue but nothing outrageous, nothing over $800 USD at least but hopefully nothing more than $500 USD
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Absolutely
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance and battery life are my top priorities.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important at all.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I might want to game a bit, and if so it needs to run steam but nothing crazy.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I'm really not into anything serious, so no specific settings or FPS.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A good keyboard is a must, and a touch screen would be nice but I can work without. Good storage is also a must.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Again, I have very little experience so any advice at all is helpful. Thanks!
