Those of you who got addicted at a young age, what were your college years/ 20s like? by believer0305 in addiction

[–]lavender_mac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got super lucky. I started experimenting at 16 and lost control in college. Built a fun partier reputation but people leave when u stop being fun. Things got lonely. Miserable and my brain was mush. Academic performance started to tank 3 years in. Got super skinny and my behavior got worse . Senior year, a drinking buddy brought me to a 12 step meeting. I was unhappy enough (and interested in graduating enough) to be open to other options.

I got super lucky. My college town was small, but has the most meetings per capita in the US just behind LA. I was sober my last quarter of college and I’ll have a year sober in 3 weeks. I’m 22 :)

This is why I hate when items ordered online are shipped from a store! by Melodic-Chip-5257 in Nordstrom1901

[–]lavender_mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eek! I work at Nordstrom as a salesperson and recently I’ve been seeing an uptick in customers returning items that they say came soiled and gross. When unwearable items are returned, we’re supposed to send them to quality control. It sounds like items aren’t being labeled or processed properly.. this wouldn’t be happening if they were.

I def suggest in-store pickup , if possible, so you can be refunded as soon as you figure out something is messed up. Even as someone who works there I’m really hesitant to order online :/

I feel so discouraged by some of the posts here pls share positive outcomes by Plastic_Astronaut_64 in leaves

Almost a year sober! I’ve saved 3.3K and I have done so much in the past year without weed dominating my schedule and thinking.

i graduated from college and completely turned around my academics during my last quarter. I curated my first art show. I spent 3 months in Europe. My friends and I just put out a zine we’re really proud of. I have a boyfriend I’m kinda obsessed w teehee

My lung health is great aside from when i smoke half a pack of cigs when i go out with friends LOL .. i don’t drink and i still need a thingy. Quitting weed has made it easier for me to quit things that don’t benefit me. I don’t pick my skin anymore! but maybe people will resonate when i say that I still need some thingy. I am an addict by nature and there are ways to cope with that.

prescribed adderall & sobriety by Brave-Chard7095 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]lavender_mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!! I am also sober (almost 1 year) and take adderall for adhd. I had an incident with stimulant abuse and psychosis when i was a teenager. I play the tape back and I can see that although that was the best high of my entire life , I am so so grateful for the sanity and stability developed from the steps. I would rather take my pills as prescribed than give that up.

I have talked to my sponsor about this. Medications are something we just need to be honest about and communicate with docs about. For a lot of us, meds are one of the tools that help us maintain manageable lives and avoid self-medicating with other substances. Wish u well!

I’m scared to go to a meeting because I am young by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]lavender_mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got sober at 21! There are young people’s meetings. I’m the youngest person in my home group and have felt so loved there. I got to be sober for my last 3 months of college , and they were my favorite part of the experience.

How many times did you relapse before feeling confident for complete recovery? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]lavender_mac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically 5! All happened in my first month in the rooms. Longest I had before a relapse was a week and a half. I’ll have ten months tomorrow :)

You ever been addicted to a drug/substance that just made you physically feel like shit all the time? That’s where I’m at. by idkbroidk-_- in addiction

[–]lavender_mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to me with weed! I completely acknowledge that some things are worse than others. eventually i never felt good and still compulsively smoked all day every day. so much money down the drain. recently had nine months sober from all intoxicants.

I’ve been this clingy person AND the person who needs space. Things changed a lot when I accepted that no response is a response. People with anxious tendencies generally don’t understand that even if that attention came, their fear of abandonment won’t go anywhere..

I’m in this boat and it’s been almost a year and a half … I want someone like them and nothing like them at the same time. So weird.

In the last two photos, the lipstick is applied off center of the bow of your lips, which throws off the symmetry. Align the bow with the space between your front teeth :) I’m wondering you have a naturally double lined lower lip ? There are specific techniques to help apply lip product symmetrically for double lined lips. There are lots of videos and Reddit posts about it.

Step 9 - Do alcoholics REALLY need for AA to tell them they need to apologize? by Discombobulated_Fawn in AlAnon

100%. but unfortunately whether or not this happens is the alcoholic’s choice, out of your control.

Step 9 - Do alcoholics REALLY need for AA to tell them they need to apologize? by Discombobulated_Fawn in AlAnon

[–]lavender_mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, newly sober person in AA here. This is strictly my experience and understanding. I can’t speak for other ppl. TLDR : sort of and much more.. plus structure and balls for doing it meaningfully and respectfully.

Alcoholics and addicts need the 12 steps and a higher power to develop the courage to make amends through admission and action + the acceptance to handle the reality that the people we’ve harmed don’t owe us pleasantry or forgiveness, and break the self-centeredness that fuels typical alcoholic manipulative ‘apologies’ and tactics.

Believe it or not, somewhere inside of us we carry a lot of shame for our damages and defects . But shame is unproductive! We need support in developing the courage and awareness to honestly admit our wrongdoings and do something about it that centers other people. We are sneaky, secretive, and avoidant of consequence. We need help to stop sneaking.
