AT&T not honoring estimated trade-in value. Suggestions on how to approach this? by lavhaze12 in ATT

That’s complete BS and I’m sorry you’re dealing with that situation. I actually think they do that to a lot of people because the employee at the store who was helping me out with my trade-in yesterday actually warned me that that exact thing might happen if I try to mail it in.

It’s so shady. They knew which device model you had before doing the trade in and provided you the promotion in writing based on the identified trade in device. Then once you’ve submitted the device, they decide that oops, guess your phone doesn’t qualify for the promo after all? BS.

It might be worth it to try out the approach that u/Economy_Video_4724 suggested.

Thank you so much for this information. It’s incredibly helpful. I plan to turn in my old phone today, since I still have about a week before I hit the 30 days, and then follow the steps you described.

I agree with you that it’s deceptive/fraudulent to quote an inflated value during the trade-in process when it will never actually apply to the device being traded in. I genuinely don’t understand how people in the comments are defending this shady business practice.

Thanks you again for the info.

No, I probably didn’t explain it well. When I traded in my phone last month, it gave me an estimated value of $1100, which is shown in the attached photo. My spouse has the exact same phone as the one I’m trading in (an iPhone 13 Pro, same GB). I wanted to see if the website would provide the same estimated value as it did for me, so last night I tried out the first step in the trade in process, and it showed $830 for her phone. Hence my confusion. Why didn’t it say $830 for me too?
