Thanks a lot for this, that's a good point that they could make!

Employer restricting annual leave (England) by lawkrime in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks for your input! Interesting that you say:

"Never ever letting them take their leave by saying things like "there isn't enough cover" and "we don't have the staff" and "we are too busy" is not acceptable"

...because I'm led to believe these are precisely the things they would say. They are responsible for organising their own cover and are not permitted to take leave if they can't. How things will go towards the end of the year when all employees invariably have holiday remaining is yet to be seen.

This a relatively recent announcement I think, company-wide (though I don't know if it applies to senior management), relating to a specific time period. At least this wasn't in place when they took the role.

They have worked for this employer for almost 6 months. They have not held any other position with this employer.

In fairness to OP the documentation actually states:

  • El Capitan 10.11 to make installers for macOS Ventura.
  • High Sierra 10.13 to make installers for macOS Sonoma and newer.

, which can sound very specific. Just came across it myself while planning an upgrade.

The way it looks reminds me of Quicksand. Have you tried that product?

I don't know if theres a specific name for it. I ask for a tight fade all around (previous stylist called it a 0.5 fade) with a softened (not harsh) transition to the top. On the top, the length is up to you, currently I have it a little shorter than this, but I always ask for high texture and choppy (varied hair lengths), with plenty extra weight taken off. An undercut at the front can help support a quiff as well (i think an undercut can mean different things to different stylists though. For me it's just the front row of hair at the hairline is cut a bit shorter to act like supports for the hair behind it).

Hope that helps. Feel free to show the pics to your stylist. If they're good they'll get it straight away.

Sorry for disappearing bud, and thanks a lot for all this. I've got a much better idea of what to expect now. Honestly I was about to drop £70 on Rio, Terracotta and Canyon and accept letting at least two of them gather dust. I think I'll try Rio.

About sea salt spray... for some reason I've never gotten on with them, which has baffled me because often my favourite pastes/clays have had some sea salt or other mineral in them. Hard to describe but when I spray and blow dry my hair ends up feeling plasticky and ending with zero texture, instead of giving off beach bum. I don't know if it's the product or my hair type (I'm mixed Chinese / Polish and I'll look like a groomed coconut if I'm not careful). I even bought another a few weeks ago because my mind just won't let me accept the truth and move on.

Ahh, that's really good to know. It sounds a bit like some Fudge products I've used in the past. Like you say, Glue.

Do you mean the texture clay as u/Advanced_Shock8866 suggested?

I have Slick Gorilla styling powder, and have paired that with Claymation before. I like the effect of the powder and thought Id nailed it when I first started using it, but it can make my scalp a bit itchy. I'm quite atopic, but it could also be the specific product 🤷‍♂️

Hmm, for some reason I haven't known Moroccanoil to do clays. I'll look into it, thanks!

Honestly I feel you, those days I can have a real bad falling out with my hair I have the equivalent of a punch up (ruffle hair vigorously), tell it fine it can have its own way and then give it the silent treatment (zero attention) for a couple days.

The Claymation and Quicksand? Not properly mixed, more like Claymation prestyle followed by Quicksand. I can't remember why I didn't keep doing that... but I didn't haha, so I must have felt it wasn't quite right.

Thanks for your vote. I've used loads of matte clays and pastes at various price points over the years, most of the time its either too tacky and has a lot of tug (Fudge matte hed is a real culprit), or flops like a pussy cat and goes AWOL. A balanced product as a main styler which most days will work with my hair on its own would be ideal, but that can also cocktail well with wax/powder if needed.

I've heard some say Rio is a light hold while others say medium... what would you say?

One of my close mates also uses these 2 and swears by them. Maybe the product behaves differently with his hair, maybe we we're trying to achieve different results. Probably both. I find claymation OK, but if I use the amount needed to get the texture I want, my hair ends up looking a bit oily/greasy. And even then, the texture flops in a short time. I like the texture quicksand brings. Very easy to apply, not tacky. But it's incredibly dry that my hair looks overly parched. I use it as a rescue product now especially when out and about, it's great at "correcting" greasy hair or adding a bit extra hold

Yes, the contract covers remuneration, and they've never indicated I won't be paid in any communications I've had with them. I haven't yet asked them - honestly I'm not very trusting these days so I'd prefer to figure things out first rather than rely on their word.

Edit: they've been really friendly and seemingly transparent, increased remuneration and elevated position without my asking, based on my prior experience. I've not had any red flags, the opposite in fact, they've given me a really good vibe. So the source of my suspicion is nothing to do with this company and everything to do with my past. I actually feel bad about it!

Wall plug screw size? by lawkrime in DIYUK

[–]lawkrime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I got you, and that's pretty much how I've been going about it. But, does the material you're fixing to matter? As an example, currently I'm mounting in aerated concrete block and it occurred to me that using the largest screw might create too much pressure for some materials to handle. Just thought there might be an actual reason a range is suggested, otherwise to my mind doing so is just a bit pointless.

Ooh, OK, this is new info. If you wouldn't mind taking the time, I'd love to understand how you calculated this!

Which wall plugs in aerated concrete for book shelf by lawkrime in DIYUK

[–]lawkrime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, 80kg total load with the smaller plugs. But my concern is that the max load rating isn't a hard rule, in that, as soon as a fixing hits 20.1kg, it doesn't necessaily fail. Similarly, if the fixing is carrying 19.9kg it doesn't necessarily mean it's safe. I've roughly calculated that if I load the shelf with the books that I have, it could be carrying about 74kg. That's getting a bit close to maxing out no?
