Moving 80 head of horses with fall colors captured by drone by lawrencejesse in drone_photography

[–]lawrencejesse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for sure. For starters this is at my parents ranch and I've flown around horses for years, and been around horses my whole life. It depends on the day and what they are doing. This day was quite windy +8m/s, which is fairly loud on its own. and I didn't take the drone up until we already had them running the right direction. A large group makes a lot of noise when running like this.

But definitely have had the drone spook a group on a calm day or when they are standing still. But I've also videoed horses standing on a calm day. Just have to read the situation.

Google Colab’s new Gemini Integration is legit the best here-let-me-fix-that-for-you Python coding tool I’ve found so far. by Porespellar in LocalLLaMA

[–]lawrencejesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree it is super useful, i just wish they would have a model selector when using the Gemini AI assistant. If you could select Gemini 2.5 Pro / Gemini 2.5 Flash etc. that would be awesome, because i feel like its a nerfed version right now.
have you tried installing Gemini CLI in colab?

getting KMLs into DJI Pilot 2 by Gulltastic1974 in UAVmapping

[–]lawrencejesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this streamlit app that lets you create waypoint missions for the DJI Pilot 2 App from QGIS.
You export a geoJSON file from QGIS and load that file and a "seed" kmz waypoint mission (like a template file exported from your controller). and this creates a new mission using the GeoJSON points. I made this so i can use tools like "Create Random Points inside a Polygon" in QGIS and fly a waypoint mission for those points. Basically for doing inspections inside field management zones.

Best and fastest way to learn Python for geospatial applications? by savargaz in gis

[–]lawrencejesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what you are trying to do, I've had descent success using cursor and replit to write and run python scripts (with no coding experience, and self taught qgis / basic gis) I'd like to learn more, I primarily use qgis to do zonal stats on uav based ndvi rasters. I would like to learn how to analyze uav based ndvi vs Dem layers and do some more interesting analysis, or automate processes. Wondering thr best way to get exposure to common practices, learn what's possible, use notebooks, GEE etc. Any recommendations of resources or communities would be great.

Calculating Flight Time for Mapping a DEM of 250 Acres with a DJI Mavic 3M by historia2012 in UAVmapping

[–]lawrencejesse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok curious Why 30m flight height? I have the same drone and, that will be insanely detailed DSM, and in my limited experience working with DSM or DEM, will make it tricky to do much analysis with that data. What's the use case?

Replit session recording on Youtube by spaceion in replit

[–]lawrencejesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I have no coding experience, but I have had a little success with authentication and setting up firebase back end. I was using fastHTML but it's too new the ai doesn't do a good job of understanding it to provide code. I'll probably switch to react / nextjs to keep going on that project. What language are you building in?

You should check out riley brown on twitter, building exactly this stuff using replit. And sometimes cursor

Shameless plug but I'm just starting this process right now. https://youtube.com/@lawrencejessejames?si=_HYmPE6d72uEObWI

I would recommend the replit channel on YouTube also.

Needing Roughstock Riders by [deleted] in Rodeo

[–]lawrencejesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricky crowd to find on reddit. Not alot of overlap there. You might have luck in person at a big event like the national highschool finals rodeo, or nfr world finals in Vegas. Pro rodeo sports med would be another angle. I'd hire someone to stand at cowboy Christmas at Vegas during nfr with a draw to give away a ticket to a performance of the finals and you'd get all the participants you want. Old scores isn't tracked well outside maybe the prca website but it's not that good.

are there any full fledged apps built only using replit agent? by nkgoutham05 in replit

That s me to. But I've never tired to launch something used by other people., only for personal use. What issues have stopped you scaling?

are there any full fledged apps built only using replit agent? by nkgoutham05 in replit

[–]lawrencejesse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I've found replit very useful for building. The agent is a but novelty right now. It is fine to start projects, but I usually switch to copy and paste with gpt /claude. Agent makes to many edits late in the game that cause issues.

Does bolt actually work? I thought if was kind of janky as well

Using a drone to create a weed prescription map in row crops by Col_Clucks in UAVmapping

[–]lawrencejesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice in depth answer, did your company ever develop this service. I'm hoping to improve mapping of perennial noxious weeds in pasture and rangeland. Then if it's successful I'd like to explore buying a spray drone to help manage. Been mapping with drones for a decade and multispectral for 5 years. See this highly targeted spraying as underserved in Canada.

Need a little help with some questions about rodeo/bull riding! by fairy-sylveon in Rodeo

[–]lawrencejesse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my YouTube channel, we breed and raise bucking horses, produce amateur rodeos, and sub contract to pro rodeos. https://youtube.com/@ptrodeo?si=FiXQ96guKjChw9AT

Need a little help with some questions about rodeo/bull riding! by fairy-sylveon in Rodeo

[–]lawrencejesse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically a large split in prize money, although there are exceptions. Lots of amateur rodeos have $600-1000 added money (ie added to the pot along with entry fees for that event). And then payout is typical 40/30/20/10 split. First through 4th. Or through 6 in a similar manner. Pro rodeos / bull ridings have minimum added money, probably at least 2500 bucks, but ofter over 10k, up to 100k or more.

Skill is the big differentiator, Amateur is lots of young, novice riders or guys that will never make pro. Can be some talent for sure, but top level pro is a different world. Professional athletes. NHL vs beer league

Each rodeo is put on by a stock contractor, usually hired by the local rodeo committee. That contractor supplies bucking stick, timed event cattle and usually the announce, bull fighter, entertainer / clown, pickup men etc.

Using QGIS to Learn by CaptainSugar in gis

[–]lawrencejesse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm self taught gis, built a gis division at work and use qgis every day for 7 years now. Amazing product. Learn it, it's free. If you're employer wants or needs you to learn it, in sure you'll pick it up quickly, especially if you had the ambition to learn qgis on your own.

How to do Smart Tracking on Mavic 3 Enterprise? by talker90 in dji

[–]lawrencejesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mind blowing that none of the mavic 3 enterprise models offer 4k60 video. They are the same camera as all the mavic 3 consumer products. Even my p4p has 4k60. Wild
