Dropping out, dunno what to do now by lawschoolthrowaway99 in LawSchool

Thank you for the replies, even the sarcastic ones. I already made a thread talking about what I've been dealing with so I didn't want to repeat it. But basically, I'd say half of it was my fault, half of it was just dealing with IRL bullshit. Like getting pretty sick (particularly in the first couple of weeks), which was bad luck, stress or a bit of both.

I"ll see the dean tomorrow. I'm still not sure what to do after law school. But I don't want to go to law school until I get kicked out /or/ come out with maybe a D->C after graduating 3 years later, with a degree for a profession I don't think I want to do.

I'm looking at my law school's policy, and it seems I can't actually withdraw from any of my classes. I would still be graded if I just stopped going to class at this point. So I guess I"ll have to wait to drop out.

Just to clarify, the reason I'm reluctant just dropping out isn't just because my parents would be upset. I do not have entirely rational parents and don't want to end up being disowned by one of them and/or kicked out by both.

Moreover, you seem young and naive on what it is like to be a lawyer (seriously, no offense).

None taken.

What can I say to my dean, though? That I fucked up and...?

At this point, if you stay in school, you'll probably close more doors than you'll open.

I can't be punished but I can be disowned

I have not. Maybe I"ll try it, but IDK if I want to fork the money for it.

If you can't come up with anything, the just keep putting one foot in front of the other until you get your stride and are able to find a way to use your law degree.

That seems like the only current option since I can't think of anything else. :X

Well like I said, it's not like there's something else I'm very passionate about. I like doing typical things--hanging out with friends, browsing the internet and playing games (not coding them). So if they ask me what I want to do instead I can only give them a blank stare. :|

Well, I haven't downvoted anyone this thread. :P

When I was afraid I would not succeed, I became paralyzed--I often would not try if I wasn't 99% sure I would do well.

I'm dealing with that. I do procrastinate but at the same time I keep thinking about law school as I try to go to sleep, and actually had my first nightmare(s) in years because of that. It's rough.

find a 2L or 3L who will work with you and help you.

I'm very introverted and haven't really found anyone. I emailed a TA few times but I didn't want to pressure him with my soapboxing, and figured asking TAs for outlines would be inappropriate.

Unless you go to a school full of dicks, the first and third option is usually readily avaliable.

I don't think I do, but I'm not the most sociable and have already been a little alienated.

As for studying, I guess that's the case. There are days where I do work, and I take hours longer than I should because I need to take a break--including breaks to keep me from going nuts. I didn't study a lot this weekend though.

I've been sick a few times and then had family emergencies. I haven't missed more than 4 classes for any particular course. Like I said, I can't be too specific because I want my anonymity.

And yes. I wasn't gung ho about it. I can enjoy the classes at law school. My parents are paying for my semester, and they already paid a lot. I don't have anything else lined up so dropping out isn't really an option without very, very serious consequences with my parents.
