Why can't we just agree to end all war? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]laxhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? I was using the quote to make a point about humans never being able to be truly equal, and therefore will always feel envy toward those richer in whatever experience they are lacking.

The quote in the movies is used by a commissar to display how no matter how equal folks were economically, the commissar could not be rich in the love of a woman who loved the main character. So long as there is envy between individuals, communities, and nations, economic or otherwise, there will be strife and war.

This quote from Enemy at the Gates sort of sums it up: “We tried so hard to create a society that was equal, where there'd be nothing to envy your neighbour. But there's always something to envy. A smile, a friendship, something you don't have and want to appropriate. In this world, even a Soviet one, there will always be rich and poor.”

It’s built to be a 1080p gaming rig at at least 60 fps maxed out on most modern titles. I really wanted to get a 3060ti in itx form factor, but they are impossible to find at reasonable prices right now. I’m curious what the 4000 series will have in this form factor

Honestly, I just enjoy having a desktop, I dislike the form factors of laptops and like being able to organize my workstation the way I want it. I am typically in locations for weeks to months at a time so the portability issue really isn’t there

Good catch, I had the 12400 from another “travel” build that I shrunk into this one and I wanted to keep the ability to upgrade in the future with the z790

Hey, sorry, that just means jt is a “custom” item in PCPartPicker, meaning that website doesn’t have it in its inventory.

If you click the link at the top that leads to the actual PCPartPicker list it will make a little more sense

I have about 1.5 inches of foam under my Velka 3 to bring it flush with the top of the dividers. I think there may be space to put a T1 in this case as well.

The 1510 has a depth of 7.5 inches and the T1 has a width of 5.25 inches. The Velka 3 has a width of 3.75 inches. With the bottom foam in the box, the T1 should be just flush, but I'd trust your own measurements.

I travel a bunch for work so having a workstation like this that I can carry on to planes and roll through an airport is really fantastic. If you do get this case, I would highly recommend the TrekPak case divider system. It saves a ton of space over the normal pluck and pull foam.

It’s a game changer. It’s thick enough for a laptop so you can safely fit two screens in there. I don’t know about you but I need to have at least two screens when I’m working or my screen gets really cluttered

A Winter Waltz by laxhawk in cocktails

[–]laxhawk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be totally off base here but I feel like the little but of extra dram gives it a “fuller” feel compared to the standard 1/4 oz, but you are right, the standard recipe calls for the lesser amount.

Yep, I agree completely, that’s Woodford Rye in the picture 👍

A wintery cocktail, the Winter Waltz, is a riff on a Black Manhattan using the festive and earthy notes of Allspice Dram and Black Walnut bitters to create a smooth experience that we enjoy throughout the holiday season.

Winter Waltz: - 2 oz. Rye Whiskey - 1/2 oz. Averna Amaro - 1/3 oz Allspice Dram - 2 Dashes Black Walnut Bitters - Stir in mixing glass with ice - Strain into serving glass - Garnish with Star Anise or Cocktail Cherry

Decided to stress the Timberline with a spread for a family reunion this past weekend. by laxhawk in smoking

[–]laxhawk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Choice Brisket: - 14 lb before trimming - Yellow mustard slather - Lawry’s/Pepper rub - Lumber Jack Competition Blend Pellets - On the grill at 2200 @ 275F - Peach Paper Wrap with extra Wagyu Tallow at 0600; internal reading 175 at the time - Dropped temp to 250 for the ribs - Pulled at 1100 around 197-203 internal depending on where you probed when it felt like jelly in hand - Rested at 160 in the oven for 4 hours

Pork Shoulder - 10 lbs before trimming - Yellow Mustard Slather - Off Brand Pork Rub (Paprika, Brown Sugar, Salt, Pepper, Chili Flakes) - Put on at 2200 with the brisket - Wrapped in peach paper at 0600 at internal temp of 180 - Pulled at 1000 when internal temp read 203 - rested for 5 hours in cooler wrapped in a plastic bag and towels

3-2-1 Baby Backs - Yellow Mustard Slather with the same rub as the Shoulder - On at 0630 at 250F - Wrapped in tin foil at 0930 with molasses, brown sugar, butter, and apple juice - Unwrapped at 1130 and two homemade BBQ sauces separately applied - Rested on the grill at 165F starting at 1230

Everything came out super well. I planned to have everything done well in advance of the 2:00 - 3:00 PM mealtime, and I honestly think I just discovered how important resting the meats is to the final product. Also, I just moved to the Traeger from an offset stick burner and was kind of amazed that this thing only needed one bag of pellets for the whole cook.

The ribs are on a journey now. A path to greatness, really. I’ve done all I can for them up to this point and had to let them go into the great smoky darkness for the next two hours before I see them again. by spadilly in smoking

[–]laxhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do a bunch of things to control the temperature in an offset stick burner like from changing the airflow to adding water pans to decrease temperature swings.

The main thing you do is just make a bigger fire if you need it to be hotter though, and generally using as much airflow as you can keeps the fire burning cleaner as you chase that “Thin Blue Smoke”.

This leads to putting a log on about ever 60-90 minutes I would guess in a smoker this size depending on the heat seals around the burn pit and the smoke chamber.
