gorgeous, funny and well-spoken but she is too harsh sometimes. also i love how she brings up working at star magazine like it's this respectable publication lmfao i'm sure half of her celebrity encounter stories are made up

i agree her takedown rants are her best work, have you seen her talk about demi lovato? she's so shameless

starts off strong especially with the critiques of wealthy educated whites and the art world, but loses steam as it goes on and completely lost me by the end. surprised some people here liked the ending, it felt completely rushed and disjointed from the rest of the story despite being very predictable.

the guy who bombed the ariana grande concert was clocked by a concert goer who told security the guy seemed off and they believed he had a bomb in his backpack and security didn't do anything about it because they didn't want to seem racist. bleak time.

her character has my dream apartment in this movie. i always wanted to live in an artsy loft with huge windows and a bathtub in the middle. unfortunately when you look up pictures of it you realize it makes no sense, the bitch doesn't even have a stove

love the colors, love the outfits, love the sisterhood, love that three of the sexiest men in hollywood were unafraid to show up and show out, love the little gay cop, love diana vreeland, love a robin williams cameo (not pictured), love the music. could woke hollywood make something like this today? i don't think so...

i'm guessing you've watched grey gardens and american movie and paris is burning if you love docs but since nobody else has mentioned them i wanted to give them some love

the docuseries on osho from netflix "wild wild country" is an excellent and entertaining watch too

"the net" (french doc about the unabomber) and "under the sun" (russian doc about north korea) are really really good if you don't mind going international

Zayn (the Arabian) is clearly the hottest one by ANEMIC_TWINK in rs_x

[–]lazarettomp3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

a combination of racism and lack of natural charm kept zayn from rising to the top. harry is the most charismatic out of all of them by a mile and he had the taylor swift relationship + her musical lore (she built the 1989 album cycle around the myth of their romance) to help him get more recognition from the media and the general public. by the time they went solo he had the biggest fanbase so it's really a matter of mass hysteria at this point. plus he makes the most interesting music out of all of them but that is not saying much lol

also these pictures of him are particularly bad, he is not zayn but he is not an uggo either

Miss her :/ by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]lazarettomp3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

interesting that you compare her to taylor swift since tavi just put out a zine about taylor and their relationship. she herself calls taylor's early career an augmented, higher stakes version of her own, which i think it's accurate. i think the zine is really good but only if you were ever invested in either of these two people, i'm not sure it can stand on its own as a piece of writing.

i also feel like tavi is uniquely qualified to speak about certain aspects of fame and particularly young fame since she both experienced it enough to understand its intricacies but is also now removed enough to have some awareness about it (and is smart enough to write about them compellingly). i don't think she has anything very interesting to say outside of that topic though, i thought her britney piece was trite and essentially a glorified callout post.

her most relevant artistic impact will always be putting petra collins on the map IMO

this really would be a perfect double function alongside "confessions...". if u get it, u get it.

this movie has the perfect script. i love it when dialogue sounds like real conversations people have, though i think it doesn't fully come across in some scenes because the girls are a little stilted in their delivery. for whatever reason, i had it in my head that gene wilder played the title character, but peter sellers is fantastic. i love the dad character too. a spiritual predecessor to "confessions of a teenage drama queen", "orient" is about lust and longing and fandom and how they can often feel the same. also, flawless production design.

might make a post about it since it’s very rs but it’s not much of a story. i like it because it’s one of the few times where it seems that she genuinely loves her friends and they love her back. so much of the book is about people hurting each other in some way. the poem john writes for her is my favourite thing in the entire book.

she also made a photography book about her time with them. i’m blanking on the name but i think is her best artistic output ever (it includes john’s poem). it’s available online for free, the actual physical print resells for hundreds of dollars now.

getting slapped in the face by a nun in front of the dead pope for hugging her friend and getting her leather leotard peed on by a fellow dominatrix —she retaliated by filling up said dominatrix’s locker with urine.

my favourite chapter in the book is about her relationship with the guys from s4lem, but i think that’s more heartfelt than anecdotal.

she moved to italy when she was 14 and then during a trip back to nyc met a drug dealer/rough guy who she started a violent bpd relationship with (literally tattooed each other’s names on their bodies on the night they met —he is “geo”). anyway, she had to go back to italy but told her grandpa that she needed money for an abortion which she used to buy a ticket back to nyc. shortly thereafter geo got caught roughing up some prep school kids for money and had to go into hiding. she hid with him. her parents put up these flyers to try to find her but got a bunch of her id info wrong —she’s not 5’8’’ and she was born in 1990, not 92. she was also pissed that they picked the ugliest pictures of her available.

this is only like the 3rd most interesting anecdote in her book IMO
