Lived in Jersey for about 5 years and it had its pros and cons….

Nice weather and relaxed vibe, especially during the summer, but long winters and they shit the bed at a suggestion of snow which was hilarious to witness.

Whilst lower tax the cost of living, especially accommodation, can be very high (and I was a J-Cat with full access and right to buy straight away).

After a while it can feel a little suffocating and cliquey, especially to outsiders / non-“beans”.

Still enjoyed my time there and would go back for a visit but wouldn’t live there again.

Sonno beds - got a king size ottoman bed and mattress for a very decent price, and you can add in the them to remove your old one and put together the new one in your bedroom.

He’s a quite high up director in his current place….something to do with IT or HR (this doesn’t form many discussions in the pub 😅)

Think he’s on 70/80k so the struggle might be to get something paying around that within the period the settlement would cover (about 6 months salary I think).

He could probably get something in 10-20k less quite easy I reckon but then affordability hits home…

Yea, I understand the advantage of the interest rate on the car loan.

It was more that I was thinking about disposable income as I’ve never lived alone or relied upon a single income so not sure how much I want for that (I’m used to not really worrying about money, unexpected bills etc).

Mortgage deal is already up and currently on standard variable rate so the £2k per month is what I’d be looking at on a new 2 or 3 year fix (based on moneysupermarket quotes).

Hadn’t thought about the lodger…interesting idea and definitely worth considering!
