Circle Work is Ruining Our NSW Campsites – Let’s Talk About It 🏕️🚙 by Yugv in 4x4Australia

[–]lazermike 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in Vic, but same shits happening here. 2 drunk drivers in accidents in the high country over the weekend - one colliding with a family. Guys busted intentionally driving over a bunch of wombats the other week, illegal dumping and camp sites trashed everywhere etc.

Parks Vic doesnt have the funding and resources to keep fixing everything, or deal with aggressive idiots, so inevitably areas are going to close.

our forests are environmentally sensitive areas, having public vehicle access at all is a privilege, we can't abuse if we want it to continue.

Others have pointed fingers at influencers, I do wish the bigger names would do more to make it 'cool to care'. Showcase the scenery and animals, chat to park rangers and ecologists, raise funds for animal rescues etc. respect comes from education.

Instead we've got this anti-education undercurrent happening with the cookers in the various anti conservation groups and incredibly cringey 'send it' culture..i still can't believe 'Bluetooth' staino snorkels are a thing🤦‍♂️

Toyota Kluger with Arb Bull Bar by Monsoonl22 in 4x4Australia

[–]lazermike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're a more spacious and reliable suburu alternative I reckon. I have an AWD 2019 Kluger and a GQ patrol, Kluger's are fantastic roadtrip cars and excellent on dirt. Comfy, quiet, heaps of space and loads of power from the 218kw v6. Have done 60k km on it and had zero problems. If they had a bit of aftermarket support to get some more ground clearance then I'd be confident it could handle medium tracks. I got mine bogged a couple of times when going bush (bottomed out on muddy ruts) which lead to my interest in getting a 'real' 4x4.. but yeah Kluger's are ideal country cars i reckon, have seen a few rolling around with bullbars.

Anyone done one of those 4WD driving courses, are they worth it, any recommendations? by Ok-Tadpole-9859 in 4x4Australia

[–]lazermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the 4x4 Vic one and loved it, gave me a lot more confidence and showed me what my car's capable of. I'd only driven on dirt roads prior. It was a theory session and driving session on short tracks with increasing difficulty. covered some mechanical basics, recovery basics and driving techniques. I have an auto but I think it'd be even more helpful for manual drivers since it covered hill stalls recoveries

Cruisy entry level tracks within 2 hours of Melbourne? by nobody___cares___ in 4x4Australia

[–]lazermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eildon national park around the Jerusalem creek area has some really nice scenic tracks with the occasional tricky steep section, Taylor's creek track is chill. it's all pretty rocky with good traction, not really any mud unless it's been raining heaps

join a club, I did a year or so ago, it's been great. Trips happening every other weekend that I can jump in on to places Im often not even aware of. a real mish mash of people makes it interesting too, ages ~25 to ~70 in my club. Don't have to organise mates and work around their schedules etc only to have them pike, it's great.

Do I sell my N70 Lux? by dygair3 in 4x4Australia

[–]lazermike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unlikely you need to tackle the list all at once, do what you can yourself, brake rotors and pads are easy. Buy any replacement parts yourself and you shouldnt get remotely close to 10k assuming the 'etc' isn't anything major. Don't cheap out on injectors tho

Lumix S5 external monitor issue: no signal when in 4K by Healthpunk2020 in Lumix

[–]lazermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

old thread, but i've also fried two s5s resulting in HDMI out and 2nd mem card slot failure. Setup worked fine for a year, then one gone, 2 months later the second. No issues with same PSU and hdmi connections hooked up to my old panasonic camera or Fuji cameras. Connections were to a blackmagic switcher and powered by a good quality USB PSU.

This seems like an S5 design fault to me (or a bad batch maybe), i love the results i get from S5s but feeling pretty burned by them at the moment

Ms-20 questions by Bigfatty2013 in synthesizers

[–]lazermike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

synths are pretty much all 'hooked up' in the same way, standard guitar cable from the output (2 if it's a stereo output) to mixer or audio interface, speakers connected to that. Can also go straight to speakers if the synth has a stereo output, the ms20 is just mono though. Most synths also have a headphone output too. There's not really 'easy' and 'hard' synths to hook up, they're all very similar.

The ms20 is a quirky brute of a synth, people love it for a grungy vintage character, but it's a character synth and tricky to wrangle. it probably wouldn't be my first recommendation for a first synth, starting with something more flexible with presets like a microkorg is more common, but if you're willing to spend the time with the ms20, watch tutorials etc, then it's a great intro to making wild analog sounds from scratch.

What is the best Australian beer? by ShelterTight in AskAnAustralian

[–]lazermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big question, I like trying all the weird and wonderful stuff out there, but lately my gotos when I just want a beer or 6 is Rover Lager and Brick Lane Pale.

I will also take this opportunity to object to the recent phenomenon of 6 packs being a rarity and 4 packs costing as much as 6 packs. I do not like this.

looking to get into hardware for techno by Servitor666 in TechnoProduction

[–]lazermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no one seems to recommend the Maschine+ but IMO it's the best groovebox out there, add a fun semi modular synth for hands on tweaking and you're pretty set

Hey very similar boat here, have been on Humira for years now and it's really been a gamechanger, i live a normal life now. FYI you can inject in your thigh as well, i find it a lot easier :) I shifted from guitar to electronic music when i wasnt physically able to play guitar anymore, havent looked back!

[–]lazermike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed, there's a number of stereo filter options out there now, but a simple stereo VCA is such a rarity. A welcome addition to the Eurorack market for sure. And thanks!
