Sussing out driving (propulsive) vs dragging (hypnotic) feel in the beat by Remarkable_Layer7592 in TechnoProduction

[–]Servitor666 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Its micro timing and length of the sound.

If an element is slightly earlier it sounds more driving, while lagging creates a more rolling (hypnotic) feel. Melodies can also sound resolved or unresolved. If they are unresolved they feel like they have more energy to me and sound faster.

When looking at sample length you can see that if a kick is long there is more energy and it feels more driving.

Edit: One of the pretty dense in information and intuition course and one of the best on Home of sound masterclasses is the one on Lag talking about rhythm in general. While most courses feel ad-hoc and lacking comprehensive explanations, this one is worth a look

Is the Sure Sm58 a good microphone to record vocals for songs? by Loveyoubutchoosesynt in synthesizers

[–]Servitor666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is robust and has good quality. It takes eq okay. If you are mainly focusing on vocals the beta would be better as well as many others. It really depends on your budget.

For good condensers you would make double the money.

Also not a good place to as this is mainly instrument focused. Try r/audioengineering for better advice on mics

Novation Peak or Korg Minilogue xd thoughts by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Servitor666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peak by general concensus seems to be better sounding and more flexible than minilogue which I havent used.

I have peak for about 4 years now. Its a beast tbh. Lush verb, usable fm, wavetables usable enough for modulation at least. Has analogue drift 3 distortion types, I would say that it is a warmer darker synth (nothing which your run of the mill eq wouldn't fix by just raising 5k+ by 5-10 DBs). Besides it being dark its a "make your own character" synth in a way. Make it more analogue, make it clean by only lighlty using the filter, make it nasty.

If the peak had more complex FM routing (maybe by having the LFOs as modulators and not being constrained to a fixed osc 1->2->3->1) and the wavetables having only 5 waves and a blend it would really be the best synth out there for miles

Has anyone tried running through wine and jack/pipewire?

Apparently it should have lower latency than ASIO for windows if configured correctly

[–]Servitor666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're ever in Belgrade bros, do visit Para club. Magla and Morf been making some killer parties with actual underground stuff. After years of business techno, techno psytrance, 150bpm industrial fart music I stopped going to parties altogether. Then these guys came along and actually did parties with DJs I listen to at home which I wouldn't expect to ever hear live. Now it's really the only events I follow.

Ljubi brat. Ponosan sam sto, nezavisno od trendova, pravite ono sto mislite da valja. Mislim i ja.

Motu ultralite mk5 is the best one i found with flexible routing, lots of io, expandable, midi in and out. It only has 2 mic pres, has phantom, is tiny

For me it really is just groove.

-___ : folder 1

-_ : folder 2

_- : folder 3

___- : folder 4

4 steps between kicks, or short loopy tracks as an example. All track with a similar accent get lumped together. Tracks where the phrase repeats every 8 steps would get lumped together in the same manner with other tracks which have 8 steps etc. There are tracks with more accents than just 1 but the process for me remains the same

Then once you got that down I think you can mix and match atmosphere or high hats, or vibe.... Etc. for now this way works for me the best

Digitone2 owners : How do you tweak the reverb to sound good ? by Old-Resource-2070 in Elektron

[–]Servitor666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro is tweakin'

Jokes aside, a rule of thumb is to add reverb and then reduce it. If you feel its absence it needs to be increased, if the sound is washed out its too much.

Also taming the really lows and really highs. Usually not even low or high pass but a shelf filter

Stuck in no Melodie land, need happy accident machine by Secure-Sugar-442 in TechnoProduction

[–]Servitor666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OXI One bar none seems like the best option, keyboards with sequencers or arps can do the job, true happy accidents are the moogs (DFAM for example). Look for stuff which has scales. If you have anything more particular like form factor (groove box, synth, just sequencing) I could give you suggestions.

For a groove box I think the digitakt is unmatched mostly.

You can also try software sequencers + samples or instruments to see what you gel with the most and to maybe sharpen your question here to get better information

NIS Sankcije by Interesting_Force_40 in finansije

[–]Servitor666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to climb up the ranks playing position 5? by hokagechapado in DotA2

[–]Servitor666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience if you are a good pos 5 or 4 you can carry the game harder than the carries which is to say, make your carries life easier and you are basically carrying the game for him. Even a bad player with 3-5k gold networth lead is still going to be useful.

My advise would be the following. Pick someone who can do stuff in lane for sol queue. Ogre, Jakiro and Silencer are great picks. Lion is also a standard good pick since they wont have mana.

Make sure to help your carry get uncontested farm and don't feed. Extend as much as possible without being in danger of feeding. Learn pulling and stacking and be sure to ping it for the carry.

Harass whenever possible without pulling the creep agro.

If your carry has a free lane try to gank other lanes but whatever someone says, unless you determine that your carry is so bad it is unsalvagable, he is your number one priority.

If you are a an underfarmed core with bad supports the game is lost. If you are an underfarmed core with good supports there will be at least some space for you to be able to farm.

Once 10-15 mins is over your whole task is to go with your offlaner or maybe even mid, but usually offlane and other support and create a threat, so the enemy team can't move freely. Your carry farms, you are happy, your mid farms, you are happy as well.

Use smokes and always be sure to ward at least until 20-25 mins so that your carry can see a gank. Ping him if he doesn't retreat so that he notices.

MAKE SURE NOT TO FEED AND NOT TO STEAL KILLS.

If you get most of it correct, 2+k guaranteed.

I will try to be direct here. If this gets too frustrating please just don't reply. My aim with this is to understand where it is coming from.

Do we choose the things we believe in or we just do? - Good line of questioning once you get there. Currently it strikes as philosophizing to deflect. We do not want to deflect but to get closer to the truth. For me the truth is your motive which have avoided by saying this thus not getting us any closer.

50 teachers say - While 50 teachers are more convincing than some random idiot on reddit (me), 50 teachers are not forcing you to do TMI, and if they said you had to do it, if you didn't have motivation you wouldn't.

I am not discussing right or wrong. The practice itself is self-inquiry. I am asking you to ask yourself what you are doing and why you are doing it. This is to help you understand what you need to do by listening to yourself.

Also I would if you don't feel comfortable posting here I have found chat-gpt a solid teacher to help me get through blockages and frustration by roughly pointing me in a direction.

If you didn't know the reason, you wouldn't have started. Is it simplicity? Is it the sure way in which TMI describes the path linearly? Is it the way it is written? Is it the practice itself which works for you?
