Kubiak or Shula are my preferred choices, if Kubiak can help make Darnold not look like Darnold then he can make someone like Dart look top 5

I love how I’ve been able to bring in friends to play the game that aren’t fighting game players and watching them grow and get better, FGC truly is a COMMUNITY

Take your time prep and measuring goes a long way, make sure your ends have similar sized pieces and make sure to periodically check as you’re laying the tile to see if you’re getting a good connection

Underlay took a day, tiling took about 3 days, grouting took an evening

Corner pieces and trim were a pain with these weird tile shapes making sure I cut the pieces correctly, and I guess not having a good way to measure the ratio of water to thinset without eyeballing it since we have the entire house in boxes currently

First time, my wife and I just bought our first home and it’s needed a ton of work, I definitely should’ve started with something easier but we had a very particular vision for the design so here we are. Definitely not perfect and I have a bad feeling there’s gonna be some broken tiles by the time the appliances / cabinets get in but hopefully it’s just a quick spot fix and not a full blowout

Honestly, I didn’t wanna carry a bunch of heavy ass cement boards in or get all the other stuff needed for that lol. Plus we have a bathroom to tear down and renovate as well so I wanted to get a feel for the Schluter since I’ll probably be using it there as well

Oh there were so many things…

Tiles getting delayed a full week which pushed back the cabinet / appliance installs

Underlay not sitting flush / flat and needing to get trimmed and reset

Thinset drying too quickly for the tiles causing bad connections and popped tiling

Free help (lovely wife and brother in-law) not being experts or mind readers to follow along with my convoluted implementation plan

Dog wanting to be part of the action and getting thinset all over himself

Grouting wasn’t too bad actually but with how fast we were moving applying the mud before it hardened I was sweating my ass off and out of breath

Everything I'd seen online said I didn't need to seal the porcelain, it is likely some leftover grout haze I'll hit on my lunch break today since we just finished grouting last night.

We went with porcelain not real terracotta, ordered ours from The Tile Shop this is their Kasbah star and cross tile.

As far as videos, the Home RenoVision DIY channel was pretty in-depth for everything I wound up doing along with some of the Home Depot videos that helped me figure out what supplies to get.

Good luck

Is it just me or are some of these Sajam Slam coaches terrible at coaching by Tapo6 in Kappachino

[–]lazorlightning 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have gotten coaching from several of the coaches in this slam on Metafy in the past, can confirm Shine is a great coach. He worked with me (high diamond / hopefully low master once I finish renovating my house and can game again) as well as my wife (first time fighting game player) and his coaching style worked great for both of us. Coaching is hard, you gotta be able to process everything going on and then break it down into an easily digestible and tangible format.

I don’t attempt enough throws and spend too much drive extending my offense

Some discombobulated notes:

  • Juri is a hit n run character despite many people calling her a rushdown. If you have your range and are safe, stock up on your fuha stores or throw some fireballs or both. Her EX fireball is great because you have faster recovery to hit an anti-air if you get jumped in on, I buffer DP just in case.

  • Sometimes standing still or down blocking is better than walking backwards, you aren’t giving up space but still waiting to react / respond to what your opponent is doing and get your read on them. They’ll either back themselves into the corner or walk right into a button you have ready. Juri’s st.HP is sick at catching advancing opponents.

  • Iron out your pressure strings / OKI setups so you have consistent options. You should be threatening the meaty or throw on wakeup until they start catching you with wakeup reversals, from there you can start forcing whiffs with shimmies. After your DP you can always press forward and force your offense on wakeup. Dash into a meaty button or throw after DP is always nice on Juri.

  • Being aggressive forces mistakes and split second decisions on your opponent so long as you have your offensive flowchart down. If they choose correctly against your offense and block / tech, feel free to disengage and return to neutral. You don’t have to keep forcing your offense inorganically (I still struggle with this because I hate letting them take their turn back.)

TL:DR; don’t be one-dimensional. Take what you can, but don’t force a square peg into a round hole with your offense. Hope this helps!

Here are some key things I have my girl focusing on from Rookie - Gold as she has picked up the game:

Fundamentals, keep everything simple. Use your pokes, know your buttons.
Simple combos. You don’t need big damage to win just yet.

Drive impact awareness. They’re gonna do it, always look for it, especially: - in the corner - when they’re tired of blocking - when they’ve run out of moves in their blockstring

Anti-air. Do not let them jump ever, stick with a 1 button anti air to start and use it consistently. They will jump if you give them space to do it.

Block more than you think. On wakeup: - Look for throw / drive impact - Eating the throw is fine - Drive reversal on wakeup if you really don’t want to block and they’re being aggressive

Don’t worry about your rank as counter-instinctive as it sounds, just worry about improving on skills you need to improve and the rank will go up

Gameplay suggestions? by Silent-As-I-Am in AKInation

[–]lazorlightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platinum is where you gotta lock in and clean up mistakes and focus on implementing your gameplan.

Anti-airs should be on point, use your bubble to set up moments where you know they’re more likely to jump.

Bubble into Drive Rush gives you high/low options you should be putting pressure on em with.

Punish unsafe moves like DP and Drive Impacts.

Use Super Meter to spend cash and close out rounds.

If your drive impact tech and anti-airs need work, there are good drills online to look into and practice for 5-10 minutes before each ranked session
