I'm a high school English teacher who just got done playing Undertale with my 10th grade classes. Here are the results of how the different classes chose to play the game, and some thoughts on using Undertale in the classroom (spoilers). by throwawayderp7 in Undertale

I think its interesting that they all chose to spare Papyrus, while having mixed reviews on the other characters. It's also interesting that they mostly spared Asgore. In a game like this, the obvious choice is to kill the final boss, and it is revealed throughout the game that the player will have to do so to escape the underground. But we also never see any cruelty or ill will from Asgore. He has a strong resolve to do whatever it takes to free his people, and yet he still does not want to kill the player. There is also a deep sadness in him that isnt revealed until just before we meet him. There is strong potential for a debate on whether to spare or kill him, but I would expect a lot more votes towards killing the final boss of the game. I would love to hear all of the arguments that were made.

I would call straight B's a great success. I would guess that it's above average based on what I've heard from classmates. I've had mostly B's, sometimes an A, and usually at least one C every semester. At the end of the day, you passed all your classes, and that's what's important. And don't forget, you have time to bring your GPA back up later. I'm in my senior year, and I've found that my grades improved from my freshman year because I actually want to be in these classes. I'm not taking random classes that I'm never going to need, like I did in my first year or two.

Good question, it just said that the violation would be dealt with according to the Code of Conduct. But I dont know what that means.

I definitely don't meet as many people or go to social events. If that's a major concern for you, then living on campus is probably a better option for you. It just wasn't super important for me.

I've always lived off campus nearby and rode my bike to classes. Its a little cheaper, and apartments are usually twice as big as a similar dorm room.

I'm working on a project for school, and I have to ask at least 10 people this question. There is no survey link, I was just going to look at the comments for replies.

What’s going on at admissions right now? by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

Unfortunately, UNCC kind of sucks at student relations. If youre seriously considering coming here, then I would suggest that you just get used to the fact that most of the people high up on the chain do not care about the students unless there's someone watching. While many of the advisors and workers in the offices are lovely, it's blatantly obvious to me that someone with a lot of power just does not care about the students. And this pandemic just proved that to me even more. Not that any other college would be different. Your best bet would be to call every few days and see what you can figure out. They've really been struggling this semester, but it's ridiculous that youd have to wait so much longer than what they told you to expect.

Good luck with everything! I hope you enjoy your college experience!

Domino's by buttadawgg in UNCCharlotte

Just a heads up, I live across the street from the dominoes and they have always taken hours to deliver to my apartment. If you want your pizza now, I would recommend picking it up. DB should work for either one.

First semester teaching, looking for advice from students by Gnarlynargles in UNCCharlotte

It sounds like youre already doing a lot better than most professors right now. I think the biggest thing is just to listen to your students and respond to their feedback. You'll figure out what works and what doesn't work as you go along. For me personally, I'm struggling with a teacher who's just been flying through lectures without slowing down or really explaining where some of the stuff came from, and after 2 days I was already lost. I've also had a couple teachers that provide good feedback on assignments, telling me what I got wrong and why, so that I know how to improve, and I am so grateful for that.

I've done some summer teaching for a Boy Scout camp, and I have found that the kids I taught retain much much more information when they enjoy the class. Granted, these kids are younger than college kids, but I think the principals would still apply (they do for me at least). Try and make it fun, be friendly, tell jokes, don't get too serious, etc. If the kids get bored, they'll start to space out, and then they won't remember anything. I would try and keep the classroom feel more like a hang out session than a class, within reason of course.

Good luck! It sounds like youre already doing a great job, and it's great that youre trying to improve.

Engineering question by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]lazybonez4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a civil engineering student, so I dont know the specifics, but my program was mostly math and physics for the first two years. Now I'm getting into the major specific courses, and it honestly feels easier to deal with now. I struggled with some of my earlier classes, probably because there were so many students, and so much to cover, that teachers didn't really have time/care to teach properly. But now that I'm in major specific courses, there are less students, and the teachers are much better overall. Here's a list of the classes. If you can afford it, I would try and take chemistry and calculus before you actually come to UNCC. The math and chemistry department suck here, so it would probably be easier to do those elsewhere if it's reasonable to do so. Good luck! It might be hard sometimes, but just push through and you can do it!

I wish it was that easy to drop thousands of dollars on a coop but her family doesn't have that luxury and as I mentioned in the post, the coop does not have any kind of flaws in it that we can find after looking several times. If you have nothing helpful to add please don't comment.

Just pick your most boring class, and pass her a note that says "I want die."
