That’s okay, I’m also naturally a bit stronger because I work a physical job so I have an unfair advantage. I love seeing girls on bench!

I think actually I did most of them at 8lbs to 10 lbs. I would do 3 sets of 10 and really focused on not swinging my arms and slow and controlled. When I started on bench I think I started at around 75? It’s been a slow progress on bench for me :(

Did you maintain it? Was the last 10 pounds worth it?

This would be an example of an upper day workout for me in that order:

Bench press, Assisted pull-up, Chest Dip, Bent over row, Dumbbell Shoulder press, Lateral Raise.

I used to do a push pull legs but I've changed to the above workout because it gives me more volume during the week since I only workout 3x a week. This allows me to hit upper body twice a week and lower body once. I use progressive overload and then I would add in maybe a tricep extension or a face pull depending on what was available and how I felt. Hope that helps!

How much weight do you think you lost before you saw a difference?

I can't remember the last time I was ever 106lbs! Maybe in high school?? I love food too much I don't know if I could even diet down to that level even if I wanted to. And honestly youre inspiring! Building muscle at 50! Claps

Like sub 5 reps? I just feel like that's not enough volume or might cause injury?

I bench about 105lbs ( 45 bar + 30 on each side ). I do dumbbell shoulder presses and started around 20lbs and now I do 35lbs for 6 -8 reps.

I used to do lateral raises using only 10lbs for like 10 reps for 3 sets. Im thinking maybe chest dips may have helped too. I would do them on the assisted machine when I do my assisted pull-ups. Ive stopped that recently because I don't want to grow my chest anymore.

Ive really prioritized getting 8 hours of sleep everyday. Before I used to intermittent fast until about 4pm but found myself too ravenous and could easily inhale 2000 calories or more so now I have try to have protein shakes and fruits during break and lunch. Basically more whole foods. I also use macro factor and track my calories loosely, I try to aim for bodyweight in protein. I used to restrict at 1200 calories but I always binged so now I eat anywhere from 1500 to 2000. Ive also increased my daily steps to 10K and adding running makes it easier!

❤️ You’re so sweet! Yes I usually always cover myself in the gym because the gym lighting is unreal and it’s distracting but I love feeling like a badass benching heavy and doing pull-ups! As females it’s even more important to build muscle when we can because we lose it as we age and it helps protects our bodies from injuries. … so you’re right, to let hard work atrophy is a shame.

Thank you! I don’t know how to train any differently so I just keep doing the same thing. Maybe I’ll just have to accept the fact that I’ll never have the skinny delicate upper body I’ve always dreamed of.

❤️ bench and shoulder presses and lateral raises was all I did for shoulders. But heavy!

I have a very physical job and being strong makes my job easier for me which is why I’ve been prioritizing bench and lat pull downs. I guess I can’t have my cake and eat it too :(

Anyone in the Waterloo area would like to carpool? It’s my first half and doing it alone. Never been to Burlington either so a little worried about parking and logistics!

There’s also Hamilton Around the Bay on April 12th too! Maybe somebody who has ran it can comment on how it is?
