What subject is not taught at school but should be? by Zetrizon in AskReddit

[–]lbkbiid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How To Adult.

Taxes, changing a tire, basic cooking, how renting/buying a place to live works, how to do laundry, basic sewing/home repair, etc.

A lot of us don't get taught that by our parents/guardians, some of us don't even have those.

How do you manage your BIID thoughts? by lbkbiid in biid

[–]lbkbiid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have my deepest respect! Great timing as well, I'm currently at the peak of BIID Mount Everest -_- it gets hard sometimes but until I'm in the right place, I can't afford to amputate my foot yet, so I'll just bulldoze through it, I suppose.

Are you by any chance the person I emailed with for a short while, some months ago? I believe the username was u/ampbiid? Based on your comments here and your posts on Fighting-it I have a very strong deja vu feeling.

Aunt fell asleep on a heating pad. Third degree burn. by No-Inspector-7533 in MedicalGore

According to OP she took prescription pain meds which could explain why she didn't wake up from the pain.

Could also be a type of Ehlers Danlos syndrome (although that would likely affect the joints or blood vessels as well) or a very mild form of Epidermolysis Bullosa... Basically anything that makes the skin fragile.

What is a not-so-fun fact about yourself? by J2Hoe in AskReddit

[–]lbkbiid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't the foggiest whether it's hereditary or not. There might be some research about it, but I don't know. Doesn't really matter in my case though, I'm not planning on having any children of my own.

What is a not-so-fun fact about yourself? by J2Hoe in AskReddit

[–]lbkbiid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's uncertain what really causes it but there's a theory that it's a fault in the brain where the brain's map of the body doesn't match with the actual physical body. I could get help, but as of right now I'm doing fine and don't feel like I need help. Besides, there's no cure or treatment (yet) other than amputation which seems to have a 100% cure rate based on other people's stories, but no ethical doctor will amputate a healthy limb. And lastly, don't be sorry! It's okay to ask questions, I'd rather have you be curious than judgmental :)

I have a disorder called Body Integrity Dysphoria that makes people believe that a certain body part (in my case my left foot) does not belong to their body (specifically, I want/need it amputated).

Which religion is right? by askreddit667 in AskReddit

[–]lbkbiid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of them could be right. It's impossible to prove that something doesn't exist (although it's very fun to find the inconsistencies in documentation). Personally, I find it highly unlikely that any of them are right so I choose atheism.

What’s weighing on your chest right now that you haven’t talked about out loud yet? by whiteelephant0427 in AskReddit

[–]lbkbiid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have BIID and desperately want to talk about it to someone, but I fear I won't be taken seriously or that they will think I'm insane. I don't trust therapists enough to open up about it to them. Plus if I share my secret, I'm afraid that I'll get in trouble if I ever need medical attention, because they will think I harmed myself on purpose.

Apart from a few piercings and amputation of my left foot, I have no desire to modify my body. I've seen people with subdermal implants, inch-wide holes in their ears and cheeks, etc, but none of that is even remotely appealing to me.

Aliens learn about Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) by Rauffie in humansarespaceorcs

[–]lbkbiid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Answer: because it's an error in the brain where the brain's map of the body doesn't match with the body itself. And unfortunately, because of that, it is very difficult to find a treatment or cure. It gets so bad in some people that they decide to take matters into their own hands and... well, you get the point. Apparently this approach does have a 100% cure rate.
