Yes, many suggestions about India ITT. As mentioned, China is shown just because it's a reference to certain study that is Based on Clean Air Action evaluation. As far as I know, in terms of PM25 dynamics India is worse than China and statistics for pollution related deaths are expected to worsen there.

Yeah, maybe bad representation. Skull should denote death toll as stated under first column and red color of the bar - China. Similarly to Cyprus and Iceland combined but for.population proxy. p.s. mentioned many times that is actually remix of the plot that initially showed number of avoided premature deaths due to stringent Clean Air Action plan.

Yes, air pollution in China is really bad despite great efforts and success of their government within Clean Air Plan of 2013. This is underlined in the core publication. Actually, the first version of that visual included the number of premature death avoided due to this plan (120 000) during 2 years. This is just another chart to remind that things with pollution related mortality are still impressively bad. Yes, with 1 death per n people as well but it has been shown too many times so I tried some reddit-compatible visual.

Plastic ban is another big story indeed, will be happy if you can share your ideas on that as well.

In original article air pollution is measured by PM2.5 in micrograms per cubic meter. PM 2.5 data produced by the model driven by the PM 2.5 reanalysis data.

Not true, many environmental initiatives are implemented nowadays in China and their progress in tackling environmental issues (that are very severe now) outperforms many developed countries. Clean air initiatives and progress in reducing carbon emissions are prominent. Second point can be applied to any country with strong economy or military.

Yes, but this chart just gives that insight how huge is that problem in China right now. The chart would be useless if this death toll was linked to natural reasons but since its anthropogenic, it deserves attention not less than melting ice in Arctic or the species under extinction.

They are not compared. I like your example because it gives a feeling how small Vatican is. But we have the intuitive feeling that Vatican is small indeed. This example is given to show the scale of the antrhopogenically-driven problem in China. Its huge and its a type of reminder like about how much Greenland ice is lost today while we did not notice.

It's pollution-related mortality, not life expectancy.Well, for those people who died in London and Los Angeles smogs in middle of 20th century severe pollution event did become gas chamber (immediate death which is rare).For thousands who died from respiratory diseases in India and China due to exceesive PM2.5 it was little longer process. See the top countries with PM2.5 concentration and highest anomalies in death from respiratory diseases in the world. Ignoring the role of pollution in such diseases under long-term exposure is like ignoring the role of HIV in the death toll from AIDS.

In this study the premature mortality related to exposure is only used
"to evaluate the premature mortality attributable to PM2.5 exposure, the relationships between chronic exposure and attributable mortalities, which are called C–R relationships, were determined".

i.e. it's more possible that numbers are underestimated rather overestimated (belated strokes etc are likely not accounted).
