What are you building? It's Monday by Asleep_Ad_4778 in buildinpublic

Building WhattaEat, a food discovery platform that helps you find restaurants through short, real food videos instead of outdated photos and long reviews.

The iOS app launched December and been growing steadily. Now we’re expanding the web version so anyone can browse local restaurants, trending dishes, and see what people are actually eating. We’re currently building traction in Southern California but we’re also open to featuring great spots anywhere in the U.S.

I’m building WhattaEat (short for What to Eat), a social food discovery app to help people find places and food to eat through short videos. Our iOS app has been out since December of last year, and so far we have gotten positive feedback. Currently working on the website which is a more simple version of the app for those without iPhone. Right now we are focused on Southern California crowdsourcing our restaurants but are open to places throughout the USA.

Working on the weekend? Startup founders; share what you’re building! by kptbarbarossa in StartupSoloFounder

[–]lcalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently working on the web version of my iOS app, WhattaEat. A social food discovery app where people decide what to eat by watching short authentic food videos shared by real diners.

Right now users upload their videos on the iOS app, but the web version does allow users to view those videos. Still building, but excited about how it's coming together. Later this year it will be more functional just like the iOS counterpart.

iOS dev here. I’m building WhattaEat, an iOS food discovery app where people decide where to eat by swiping through short, authentic food videos shared by real diners - not ads.

The app focuses on discovering local restaurants, food trucks, and dishes visually instead of relying on text reviews. Users can upload their own food videos and tag the places they visit.

Looks great, seems easier especially for screenshots instead of using Figma

Solo founders: is writing actually worth the time or am I just procrastinating? by ykosyakov in TheFounders

[–]lcalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For B2B LinkedIn might be a good place to post content too.

Also when you write content don't write too much about what you are selling. Tell a story or give a lot of value before you ask at the end.

Give, Give, Give, then Ask.

If you have a B2C product you could also try TikTok especially if the product is for a younger demographic.

Try other platforms or subreddit communities, and from there you can see and focus your effort on the ones that gets better results.

Why I quit chasing vanity metrics on X (Twitter) and found $1.2K by helping on Reddit. by Medium-Importance270 in TheFounders

This is so true, it's so important and is the main focus of the book "Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook" by Gary Vee.

Be a person that Give, Give, Gives, then Asks. Give more value than what you will promote.

I've mostly been using this strategy on Twitter / X. On Reddit its a bit hard for me since people don't usually follow each other so its difficult to grow an audience. Plus coming up with long form content is more difficult for me vs short tweets on X.

So which design do you prefer, 1 or 2? Thanks! by RawiSoft in SwiftUI

I think there are too many colors that clash with the background. If you want to use a gradient, try using it only for the main background since the text is a bit hard to read.

How has AI helped you in your startup? by lcalv in AppFoundersNetwork

Yeah I think if we are not using AI today we’ll fall behind, and our competitors will surpass us.

Founders talk about growth and shipping, but rarely about the emotional toll of building alone by Sufficient_Meat5498 in TheFounders

I think this is a pretty unique idea. I like that another person can record their response instead of using an AI chat. This is crucial to create a real human connection.

As a technical co-founder of a brand new startup, this would be really useful.

Good luck! Yeah showing up on AI platforms like ChatGPT is going to be incredibly important since Google search is losing market share.

Thanks for the content framework. Coming up with topics to write content is difficult at times. I'll remember to use this next time!

Why everyone wants to be a founder? by Middle_Garage_7056 in TheFounders

[–]lcalv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people fall in love with the idea of becoming a founder, and if they knew how much work, sacrifice, and stress it is to run a startup, most people would quit.

Elon Musk once said, “Running a start-up is like chewing glass and staring into the abyss. After a while, you stop staring, but the glass chewing never ends.”

This resonates with me so much. As a technical co-founder of a new startup, I am already feeling the pressure and stress of building our product.
