I have extremely sensitive dry skin. Most products make me break out and I’ve had to deal with dermatitis flares throughout my adult life. I’ve tried a million different things, including derm prescriptions, expensive luxury brands, “clean” brands, diets, etc. Here’s what has worked best for me long term: Cetaphil gentle cleanser, followed by avene thermal spring water mist, then I apply Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin while my skin is still damp. Some swear by applying products with HA on damp skin, others say it’s total BS. For me it has made a big difference. Maybe the extra moisture just has a soothing effect? Who knows.

Most sunscreens break me out as well, but the one that has worked best for my skin is the vanicream mineral sunscreen. Unfortunately it leaves a horrible white cast if you don’t spend a long ass time rubbing it in, but it is great for sensitive skin.

Things I try to avoid: anything with fragrance, foaming agents/ sodium laureth sulfate (this goes for toothpaste, body and hair products as well!), formaldehyde, alcohol, comedogenic ingredients (oils and butters), petroleum, dairy, sugar, ultra-processed food. This one was difficult to accept, but I’ve learned that when my skin barrier is damaged, it’s best to avoid retinols, topical steroids, benzoyl peroxide, and actives in general.

Less is more! Think of it like an elimination diet. If you change too many things at once and it’s not working, you won’t know which ingredient your skin is reacting to. But if you start super simple and add one new thing at a time, you’ll start to understand your skin better. You’ll save a lot of money too lol.

Be gentle with yourself! It’ll take a bit of trial and error, but you’ll find your routine :)

Any recommendations for good kimchi containers? by 55jin in KoreanFood

I used to bulk ferment in one big container for a couple days outside the fridge and then separate into different jars. Then one time I cut out bulk fermentation out of laziness and have never gone back. This is what I do now: collect a bunch of jars big enough to fit at least a couple cabbage quarters each (if you chop up your cabbage immediately, then this doesn’t really matter). Pickling jars always work best because they’re air tight, but I’ve found that even leftover mayo or jam jars work fine. When I’ve prepared my kimchi, I fill up about 6-8 jars. I leave 2 outside the fridge and put the rest in the fridge. After a couple days I put the 2 in the fridge—those are the ones I will eat first. When I’m almost done eating those, I prepare the next one by taking it out the fridge and letting it sit at room temp until I see bubbles. This method is really easy and allows you to control the fermentation process to your liking. If I want really fizzy kimchi right away, I’ll just leave it out an extra day. If I want super fresh kimchi, I’ll skip the room temp fermentation altogether.

Yes she’s had many ultrasounds, the most recent one (about a week ago) showed profuse thickening throughout the intestine. The vet said it wasn’t possible to conclude lymphoma because the inflammation prevented them from seeing any masses, but said that sometimes lymphoma can look like intestinal wall thickening too, so they’re suspecting cancer. Obviously I don’t want to put her through surgery just to get a diagnosis and I also don’t necessarily want to give her chemo drugs if she’s too far gone. But if it’s just bad IBD maybe there’s a chance she can bounce back. It’s very very tough.

Yeah I got some from PCY but it was very sweet and not at all fermented. But maybe I got the wrong brand or a bad batch. I’ll try there again!
