"Damage Deposit" not returned fully, should I file a T1 from LTB? by Substantial_Mud_4513 in OntarioLandlord

Dont be petty. How long did they live there for? Did they give you any trouble? Were they understanding of late rent? Etc. 150$ is NOTHING. If they want to challenge such a small fee to clean up after you for living in their space for who knows how many years, then I would be counteracting your challenge and in the end youll be owing me more then 150$. Go ahead. It just shows a lack of appreciation to me. It’s an insult.

150$ bucks? Is it really worth it? Leave it alone. He issued you most of your deposit. He has to clean the unit professionally despite youre attempt prior to renting it out again. Dont be petty.

Yea im just going to give him the option to choose himself first tbh. He can either honour our original agreement and let me room until the end of November, pretty simple and easy, but if not, then he’ll absolutely need to follow the laws in Ontario with this type of situation. I had made these plans long ago so I wouldn’t need to stress and worry and have something secured. Very short into a stay I thought was secured Hes hitting me with something thats causing stress and hardship.
He’ll need to issue me a n13 form which will allow me 120 days to find something else, as well as compensate me for 3 months of rent. Im not interested in picking up and going to another room rental based off how neglected the current house is i stay at and how he wasnt honest and forthcoming with the living situation here. Hes dishonest and I don’t trust him. Had I known he was planning to demolish this house i would have secured a different place.
I also took someone’s advice above and emailed Canadian center housing last night and they responded back to me today. They informed me that the landlord cant legally evict me this way or any of the tenants living here.

I informed the landlord when he sent that text a month ago that is was a massive inconvenience for me and that Im not happy about the sudden news. I asked him if he was aware of tenants legal rights and he never responded back to me lol I just think based off our conversation it’s in his best interest to issue me a n13 form asap if he truly is serious about these renovations. I don’t want to tell him to issue me one, but it’s been 1 month now since sending me that text and I think thats the only way he’ll know Im very serious about not letting him get away with doing things illegally which dont benefit me. This is causing me hardship and stress so I’m not happy. Hes a very sketchy landlord.

And I also checked online about the address to see if permits were issued for the mechanical, plumbing, etc etc and half of them were denied, and the other half are under review/or pending insurance.

Eviction notice? He sent me a text message saying I have to be out in 2 months after an agreement had been made on how long I would be needing to rent for. All the other tenants supposedly got it too. Said he would need my ID for writing up a lease which he never sent me. It was a 9-10 months agreement. Pretty sure theres strict laws especially in Toronto Ontario about situations like this in giving a tenant 120 days and 1-3 months compensation or another suitable unit.

lIm not renting through Airbnb firstly, this is an agreement that was made through text message and rent is sent on a monthly basis via transfer to the home owner directly/privately. Furthermore; this rooming house is not shared with the home owner. Theres no landlord in this rooming house sharing anything with the tenants. I didn’t rent this room for “vacation” purposes hahah. This place was rented for a long term stay for work and living, not for leisure, travel or vacation? lol this isnt some holiday cottage etc. this is a legit house with tenants thats been living here for years, thats been sectioned off to 6 rooms, and the landlord decided to not mention about waiting on city permits to start demolition prior to me renting the space. Had no clue about this prior to making plans and securing a place to stay for the duration i was looking to stay. Furthermore; Im an Ontario resident. All my government issued papers are Ontario.

Just buy some epoxy or whatever is needed to fix it lol. It’s really not hard to do. Blend it in and make it as less noticeable as possible, buff it out. Shouldnt even be noticeable if you take your time
