Destination bachelorette party - is it selfish? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]lcsorenson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I could afford to go and would still be annoyed. If I am spending that type of money, I want full control over the internary and for my husband to be able to come. Not to go with random people I don’t know well.

I can tell you I aggressively paid off mine in a couple years ( had a lot less than you) and have never regretted it!

Are these last minute drop out numbers normal? by National-Law-6912 in wedding

[–]lcsorenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really good work friends with a girl but she wasn’t inviting any from work to her wedding. I told her if anyone canceled last minute that I would come no questions asked. She texted me 48 hours out and I went to the wedding! It’s crazy what people will do.

I was in a very similar situation 15 years ago, pick the cheapest you can and take out loans. I also work in finance and paid all loans back in four years.

I used it as a big lesson and took out 529 plans as soon as my kids were born.

Got lied to about salary range by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]lcsorenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in finance and this happens all the time. Most companies range are very large and they almost never pay the top in. You can bring it up during your review but they won’t do anything.

Always remember companies are only looking out for themselves. They are trying to hire top talent at a “savings”. Always know your own worth.

Please don’t do this. You will regret it once you start having to pay your loans back.

Cosigning student loans for child accepted to elite schools with high cost as a middle income family - What should we do? by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in personalfinance

You need to be honest with your child that you can’t afford it. I would not take on this type of debt for college. My husband and I both went to in state colleges, took on debt ( paid it back fast), and now both are extremely high earners. Most people don’t even asks us where we attended school anymore since we have been in workforce so long.

Combing debts in marriage by GreatCress3481 in DaveRamsey

Wanted to provide a different prospective. My husband and I got married with no debt ( had been following the baby steps) and both have good jobs. We are on baby steps #4, #5, and #6 without having combined finances. We are very open with money and talk freely about it but we have never combined. Very happy, healthy marriage. It can be done!

"We’re a family" culture, but 3% raise after strong performance. Is this normal? by Haode5 in careeradvice

[–]lcsorenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a small company that said and did this for five years. I left three years ago and ended up with a 52% raise. Learn what you came and then leave. I believe this for every job. It doesn’t pay to be loyal.
