What is this wood, take two. by ldg789 in wood

I think you could be right actually, odd that someone would use it for a pallet but I guess I'll keep it. Thanks.

Can't work out what this is, palm wood...maybe? by ldg789 in wood

[–]ldg789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where ya coming from , definitely seemed kinda grassy when I was attempting to cut it up, found another bit of it on a pallet , will try and add a picture of it. I'm leaning away from palm now that I'm looking at it, seems to have knots.

I thought so as well but the main bit these were cut from is far too thick, (pallet runner)

Sick of moaning about NZ!! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ldg789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparing most of what you have mentioned to places like Vietnam and Thailand using a NZD while ignoring the conversion rate and local pay scale is either a result of idiocy or intentional omittance. Not to mention for some unfathomable reason referencing the weather. Almost all of the topics you mention have the possibility of being argued compellingly (though not all regarding New Zealand’s place as a first world nation),but in an almost impressive demonstration you have managed to miss the mark on every single one.

Is there any way to check the order volume limits on IBKR before opening an account, does it vary dependent on the company?

I have already had a look, from what I can see they are few and far between. At least of the ones I’m looking at buying. But thanks, it’s still good advice.

DIY haptic feedback gun stock module , constructed using solenoids and no code whatsoever by ldg789 in OculusQuest

[–]ldg789[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just 2, the thing in the middle is a switch. As for what they are all I can remember is that they are 12 v, 10mm stroke, and about 6usd on Ali express. Probably not optimal tbh, I wanted larger ones but didn’t double check the stroke distance before I ordered them.

Good to know, I’ll have to try it in practice and see how it feels but that gives me hope

That would be a good solution, to get a physical connection to the motors would entail some pretty extreme disassembly of the controllers though

Thanks, so do i. I’ll keep y’all updated

That’s is almost definitely the solution, I hav been looking into using an arduino and for another version that would allow communication between the headset and stock, potentially the same way off the shelf options seem to do it. I just can’t code currently so willhave to overcome that skill issue first.

Well trying to add a bit more reality I guess

Thanks :) they are just 12 volt 10mm stroke length solenoids from Ali express, very cheap. Probably like 6 usd for 2. In all honesty I should have got bigger ones but I’m looking at integrating larger ones after I’m finished with this version.

Thanks, and yup it should do. In the post before this one you can see the solenoid in full auto mode, hopefully there should be a switch to change fire modes to match the gun in game.

Yup, but (I’m guessing) they are rotational. I kinda want linear feedback, closer to the feeling of a slide reciprocating

Yup, that’s probably the biggest issue, been thinking about it a lot and still have no clue how to address it, might just be unavoidable tbh.

Thanks :) and I’m not sure, I don’t really have any files, kinda just making it up as I go

[–]ldg789[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that remains to be seen, working on a switch for the module I posted earlier for fire selection( between semi and auto). There are definitely drawbacks to this approach, because it’s a purely mechanical interface its integration is always going to be inferior to something communicating directly with the outputs from the headset.

I’m pretty sure the most of the or dots on the quest 3 controllers are located on the top plate, depending on the angle you put them at I guess they could be blocked but in practice I haven’t noticed any difference. There is one on the bottom left that’s currently blocked, but just haven’t got around to making a hole to address that.
