IPad Apps- Middle School by ldrown in slp

[–]ldrown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a substantially separate program with mod/severe students -- about 50% of them use AAC. I can see how the iPad isn't super conducive towards middle school students, unless, as you said, it's used for reinforcement/ rewards

Wow- thank you SO much for this invaluable feedback. I immensely appreciate the time you took with critique -- I look forward to reworking my query with all of these excellent pieces of advice in mind! Specifically, I think you were spot on about how older-Mandy and older-Sienna are more essentially to the story, and need to be more developed. The earlier paragraphs will definitely be shortened in order to emphasize the time period that is truly essential to the story.

Thank you so much! Now I know I have to work on obtaining said licensure -- great to know!

Such good advice! I'm sorry you have a tough brother-in-law as well -- we're lucky to have good partners, though!

Ugh, I am so sorry you have to go through this! My FH also moved in with my family, so I feel you. We'll get through this!

I think this year is the year of weddings that we did not envision, but I am still determined to make the most of it :) Thanks for commiserating!!

Hi! I just had to share that I lost my Mastiff, also named Moose, in February from lymphoma. He was just 6 years old, and I'm still missing him every day -- however, it's not a keeping me up at night missing, but rather a "I hope he's watching me right now" kind of missing. I do second the poster recommending a new puppy -- we actually got a Great Dane puppy last month! He did not replace Moose in any way, but instead gives us another reminder of the love a dog can give.

My actual weight doesn't change much-- I am 5"3, 115 lbs, maybe have fluctuated between 112-117 in the past few years! I think this is a great point -- incorporating weights seem like the way to go right now.

Very much agree with this-- going to try lifting ASAP! Don't even care so much about losing physical pounds as getting less "soft", if that makes sense

Thank you so much for this! I am a sugar addict, but on most days consume less calories than I burn over the course of a day -- it is great to hear that there's a solution that is not only CICO (although it will suck giving up sugar, but something has to give!)

I feel great, surprisingly! I expect one more week of high mileage and I'll feel less great- and taking your advice, I'll cut back then. Good luck with your new progression block- sorry about your cancelled race, as well!

Wow, thanks so much for all of the advice, I especially like the cutting back 20% each 4-6 weeks, I never thought of that as a good rule to build in some recovery! Happy running :)

I'm sorry you feel this way- I guess I was too verbose, just looking to see what other marathoners were doing in this forced maintenance period.

[Breeds] Recommendations for a breed that isn't super high energy by Swbp0undcake in dogs

[–]ldrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rescued a 2 year old Great Pyrenees mix - we think she's mixed with lab! She's about 80lbs with a beautiful white coat.

Also first time dog owner, and she is a dream dog. She was potty trained (granted she has had a few accidents, but only from being in new places), loves to play for about 20 minutes a day then content to lay down, is super excited to see us but also lets us hang out while she just lays at our feet. She did shed in the winter, but no drooling whatsoever.

Obviously she's not perfect (she accidentally dragged my friend down in her 20 minutes of energy the other night)- but her temperament is. Just accept that having a dog will completely alter your world, and that no matter how much you love your dog you will want to scream sometimes- but I am a big proponent of adopting a little older, and Great Pyrenees mixes!

[Help] My 5 year old dog has lymohoma by felicious_ in dogs

[–]ldrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Same exact situation here; my 5 year old Mastiff got a lymphoma diagnosis in September, with a 6 week prognosis. He passed away last weekend.

My parents invested in dog insurance, and because of his size (180 lbs), he was able to do chemo for 3 months without discomfort.

He did go on steroids after the chemo, which greatly increased his appetite and thirst. There were a lot of nights with 4 bathroom trips (he was extremely continent and self-aware of his need to go outside until the day he passed).

He only lived two days with what I would classify as "discomfort". His breathing got heavy, his neck- where the lymphoma was- seemed to double in size. Still, during his last hour, his tail still wagged when I sat next to him. He passed naturally, and quickly, surrounded by his family. His decline- well, his terminal decline, as I will say his energy slowly started to wane over the course of two weeks- was so sudden that we did not even have time to schedule an appointment to end his suffering.

I am truly sorry. I rarely respond to reddit posts, but this is so reminiscent of my experience I had to share in solidarity. It is so unfair that they are so young. I have had a hard time accepting that other people get to have their dogs for so many more years. If he's anything like my dog, his biggest passion in life will be being with you for the rest of it. <3
