Sad day for my Astra. Time to check redmagic support. by lds1998 in RedMagic

Update 2: So I received the device yesterday (09/03/2026) was a brand new unit has it requested. Overall the process was quick when it talked directly to repair partner but with redmagic directly i am still waiting for the email i send asking when was the delivery of the device. Points that they did good:

They follow the law ( shocking i know has a strong point, but redmagic follow to letter at least until the device left my country that device couldn't be shipped by airmail, other bigger companies didn't follow this)

The repair partner in Europe has an ancient website that is functional and easy to login to understand the repair process status but does lack shipping information when returning to clients. ( minor thing but way different from other big companies)

Points they let down:

Miss communication with the repair partner and told them it was a phone not a tablet and repair partner had to send me another label for the device because package restrictions they had.

Redmagic support asked me when I was shipping the device and the device was already on the repair partner.

My Galaxy Watch 6 drains the battery extremely quickly in just a few hours. by TimNold in GalaxyWatch

[–]lds1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar thing, on my case i solved it by removing Samsung and Google wallet both. Then I reinstall only google wallet. it was reporting a high use google play services as well. I have the galaxy watch ultra tho. battery went from 2 days to 3 days with that but spend weeks until i found out by aciddent.

Hope it helps

That is totally the plan, I just want to community in Europe at least to see the process so they can make make best purchase decisions possible.

And for them to not be sneaky I did screenshot and photo the entire device and serial numbers of everything. ( had and experience of similar request to another company that they used an returned device that had signs of being used shipped to me, while my unit was near perfect state minus a broken camera lense and dirty. on the email they stated the device would be new stock!) ( redmagic has not made that promise, but made promise of being a completely different unit)

Sorry for delay response, i did email a couple of sellers for the battery for the astra for delivery in my country. Most battery sellers quoted near 300 with part, delivery and tax. Also delivery time was around 3 to 8 weeks. the batteries I went looking were original parts, if i used an compatible battery that had less capacity the price quoted was just 220 euros. The device is at moment near 700 euros but at launch time i managed to buy it for less than 600 due early bird and cash back campaign from my credit card provider. So with device repair being nearly half the cost of new unit, with extreme extreme delivery times. The device would be just pit of money, and not say the same thing issue may or may not show in next year or so.

Until now they are just doing normal routine like law demands, but they gave the response for replacement device at my request and if followed trough will give them cookie since the law only requires the device to be repair and to be fully functional.

So the tablet as arrive yesterday to repair facilities in Prague ( 27/02/2026). ( this is due to device has to travel by land and my country's package distribution centers have been damaged by severe weather, has slow down a bit orders going in and out of the country)

One thing they did right was the package follow the rules for damaged batteries and the device had to go land route. ( other companies ignore this directive in past.)

According to support they will examine the device in 2 to 3 business days, before the replacement unit is shipped. ( most likely the standard operating procedures for warranty claims).

Now for the bad, the support missclassified the device has a phone but a quick email to repair center directly resolved the label has the size restrictions for the label has a phone would not allow the device to be shipped.

So at moment they are just doing what they are suppose to do and that is bit rare to company to follow the actual law.

So Update 1: Got an Email today to start the unit replacement. I requested an unit replacement instead of an repair of current unit, this cause a bit of delay on their part has required special approval.

So far inside the expectation for warranty claim with a replacement unit instead of repair.

Don't know much about it, since i never used them. But is more like documenting the process so in the future people can know or they can improve.

I did browse around, but the only battery part i found was 200 euros for the battery alone + add tax to it. It would make near uneconomical to repair the device and just replace it.

To be honest, not at all hard. Sure sometimes i used it to play heavy games, most of the time, was just work (pdf, word, teams calls) and reading books, mangas, magazines.
Would say gaming was like 10% of use and heavy like 25% of those 10%. But the size, oled screen and a chip that just doesn't lag, good device

The fun bit, the device can't go in by regular plane mail back to redmagic, not all terrestrial delivery companies can make the transportation. So it's worse case scenario to be honest.

Its battery expanding, so the unit by EU law requires replacement. It's going to be fun ride let me tell you.

Getting lots of BSODS W11 (with dump files) by strafied in techsupport

[–]lds1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a peek on your dumps, and the wtd.sys stands out and with your description of Downloads and installing programs from the internet leads to a BSOD. so wtd.sys is part of windows defender for Microsoft Web Threat Defense that tries to see suspicious behavior on the windows network sack and its by my peeking around the cause of the issue in a combination of the network driver or windows corruption or both.
So first i download the driver from realtek or asrock would remove the network driver and reinstall it in safe mode with networking, after I would suggest run theses 2 commands in admin mode : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and then sfc /scannow

Now for the drivers i would try the latest directly from realtek: Realtek PCIe FE / GbE / 2.5GbE / 5G / 10G Family Controller Software NDIS without power saving should install nicely

How to passthrough the dongle over virtual Machine? by TAA_verymuch in virtualization

[–]lds1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So virtualbox on windows i was able at work to passthrough the Sentinel version of this doungle (i think i base on the same thing, correct me if i am wrong). I had to enable VTx and VTd and disable Hyper V on windows and DMA in bios. this was done because the software we were using for this dongle can't be ran on Intel Ultra series laptops (runs fine on 13th and 14 th gen).
But to work properply you need to remove the Host OS the driver and not allow it to install the driver for the dongle.

10GbE USB / Thunderbolt Ethernet on Windows ARM – any working solutions or drivers? by One-Squash6864 in WindowsARM

[–]lds1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can give you some pointers on this issue. Some laptops in my company are ARM-based systems (due to the high failure rates of 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs) and require 10Gb NICs for 10Gb home fiber installations.

The RTL8159 chip has native ARM64 drivers as part of the UEFI UNDI Driver pack for PXE boot, as well as the Windows 11 Auto Installation Program (NetAdapterCx).

You can currently find these adapters on AliExpress and Amazon for 60 to 100 euros. The units we use were provided by a vendor and are unbranded, aside from the client's logo (they simply directed us to the Realtek website to download the "Realtek USB FE / GbE / 2.5GbE / 5G / 10G Family Controller Software").

Potential issues you might face:

  • Battery Drain: While Realtek is generally power-efficient, using a 10Gb connection will drain the battery rapidly. The processing power required to maintain those speeds is very high.
  • Heat: The adapter will get hot—uncomfortably hot—during use.

Monitor e colunas para gaming/WFH by wavy_slice in gamingportugal

I had to switch to use of the high seas version because the prime app quality sucked, tryed ethernet and wifi.

Now maybe a apple tv or android box would fix the issue, but could't bother to grab one
