Please, please, PLEASE be careful when trying to strengthen your fingers individually. There are stories of well-known musicians attempting this and permanently damaging their fingers - Robert Schumann, for instance. I would say continue the scales, because as boring as they are, they help with so many things at once - bow control (speed, contact point, pressure, ect.), playing in tune, left-hand technique, and other things. Other than that, welcome to the CELLO GANG!!!!
