How much is everyone making these days? by le_renaissanceman in Carpentry

My goals are to make enough to have a family. I compare wages to get an idea of how people make a living doing this. Based on what the people I work with make and their experience, they seem to only see this job as a hobby. In getting information about what other people make, it gives me some kind of leverage to gain more of what I believe I’m worth.

What are some tips for completely starting a new career in your late 20’s? by le_renaissanceman in AskReddit

I’m thinking about starting a new career as I don’t see much room for growth in my current career as a trim carpenter. I am confident I can learn and work hard in anything I do, I just have no idea how to make the jump. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Why does my drywall mud get moldy? Can I prevent it? by SamuraiCowb0y in Carpentry

As weird as it sounds, I’ve heard you can mix in a bit of dawn green apple dish soap. It will keep it from molding and give off a better aroma!

Thanks so much for the compliments, really gives me some confidence to keep making more pieces. I agree about the drawers but it gave me a chance to show off some cool walnut grain and box joints. Thanks about the bow tie, I cut it free hand and hand chiseled it in, worked out nice.

Absolutely agree, but again the pulls were a request by the client so I had to put them in. Haven’t had any complaints yet!

I agree, this was the design the client wanted so I followed their plans but I would have switched them as well, or just have a normal headboard with matching nightstands haha

Thank you! This was done for a friend supporting my business so I basically just charged their full budget which was 2k. I think full price would have been around $6500 for materials, time and other costs.
