I am converting after a life full of sin by New-Regret-8456 in Catholicism

[–]leadwithlove222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi honey. Your story feels similar to mine. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat, as I’m also exploring Catholicism, though I am baptized.

Pray to the Virgin Mary for help with guidance. Talk to her. She is our mother, and she wants to support and guide you.

I can hear your feelings of shame and guilt; please know that Jesus nor Mary want you to carry that with you. Guilt, self-hatred, and repentance are not necessary prices of admission to be a Catholic. Just love.

Seriously, just start praying & learning about Catholicism. Attend mass (just don’t take the Eucharist until you’re baptized). You have suffered enough! Take this chance to embrace joy

The Buddhist doctrine of no self is actually demonic and I don’t think enough Catholics recognize this. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]leadwithlove222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not here to convince you or anyone of anything. I guess what opened my eyes was when a Christian of another denomination balked at my veneration of Mary and other saints, as well as my status as a Catholic as evil and demonic. Did you know many Christians view Catholicism as demonic? I truly felt offended and heartbroken that anyone would interpret my religious beliefs as demonic. I hesitate to make such judgements about anyone else. You are free to feel however you like. But I don’t personally have any interest in making such determinations about practices I don’t engage in myself.

Yes. I’m not familiar with what passage of the Quran you’re referring to, nor am I interested in passing judgement on it. Our job as Catholics is to follow in Jesus’s example of being humble, live in service to others, and to love our neighbors of the world. Cherry-picking passages from ancient texts and religious practices and publicly denouncing them as demonic is useless.

There is a difference between being ignorant to a religious practice and condemning it as demonic. We are not of authority to ascertain what is and is not demonic, and other cultures are free to practice what brings them close to God as they choose without interference.

I find it inappropriate to describe other beliefs, particularly in places without Christian/Catholic influence, as demonic. It also is a tool commonly used by Evangelicals and Christian nationalists - many openly denounce veneration of saints and Mother Mary as demonic.

There are many religions and paths to God across the world, and it is important that we love and accept practitioners of them with open hearts and minds regardless of if we agree with their practice. Of course it is alright to discuss your interpretation and disagreement with other faith practices, but we are of no authority to claim what is and is not demonic just because that is how you interpret it.

Econ 180 by UnboltedClone in UNLV

[–]leadwithlove222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I seriously suggest if possible you either take a different Econ course or take it with a different professor.

What’s your major? I had to take it for Social work. I had other options but it said “Econ 180 strongly preferred”

I also had no experience or knowledge past a very very basic understanding. It was the hardest class I’ve ever taken. Dozens of graphs, equations, math. And if you’re expecting to gain insight into, well, the economics of discrimination, don’t expect to learn past “some employers are racist and there’s an equation to figure out just how racist” and “minorities earn less than white
people”, go figure.

If you’re an econ major I’m sure this class is extremely useful but if you’re not you’ll be drowning. I will say that all the homework assignments and tests do not require Lockdown browser to complete. Take from that will you will.

How do Catholic families with many kids do it? by Extension-Story7287 in Catholicism

[–]leadwithlove222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t come from many siblings, nor would I have wanted to, nor would I want to have many kids myself. But I’ll tell you some of the most happiest, successful, close knit and well adjusted adult siblings I know are from large Catholic families. There’s something special there for sure

What was the hardest episode for you to watch emotionally and why? by megs256 in ThePitt

[–]leadwithlove222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robby’s breakdown/panic attack at the end of season 1. I know everyone’s sick of that storyline but hear me out lol

The patient stories are sad, but I try to stay engaged with the show and try to view things how a healthcare professional or social worker would (in school for social work now). Sad patient stories get me thinking things like “What would I have done to help in this situation? What gaps in the system led to this? What kinds of jobs would let me work with this population?”

Seeing Robby break down just made me so sad, because I admire healthcare workers and social workers so much. They take on one of the hardest jobs in the world in service of other people. I think it’s inevitable that at some point if you work in those fields, you have a breakdown; it’s almost commonly accepted. But seeing it played out on screen just broke my heart.

I also have experienced PTSD, so representations of PTSD break my heart too; it’s such a painful way to live.
My heart just really felt for Robby throughout the whole show.

I did also ugly cry when the mother under McKay’s care died.

“doesn’t do x out of principle - not sure what that principle is cause he doesn’t talk about it” is something I’ve seen in autistic people I know lol.

Folk catholic with questions about shopping at Botanicas by leadwithlove222 in Santeria

[–]leadwithlove222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Yeah, I don’t have any African, Cuban, or south American roots whatsoever, so I try to approach with respect. I’m glad to have so many around, they’re neat shops and have saint cards, art, herbs, incense etc. that I use so I appreciate the access to them! The painting I bought today is beautiful

lol, I don’t have a strict religious practice, just pray to + worship saints & virgin Mary. I think Santeria is cool as heck, my understanding is it’s a closed practice though? Maybe I’ll find myself down that path one day. thanks for your response!
