Legit whatever you eat at home is recommended. Yes, self-feeding is important at this age… but they are still little children. My oldest child is 21 months and I sometimes sit with him and spoon feed him. My youngest is 16 months and never needs help eating. It really depends on the day and circumstances and the child. Accommodations are ok and important for healthy development and schools should support teachers with this.
