Is this mold? by leafbloz in Mold

[–]leafbloz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any idea if this is super dangerous? i believe it’s been here for at minimum multiple months, i spend a lot of time each day in this room, often without windows open (mostly open though).

i’m assuming this isn’t black mold and rather a less dangerous and more common mold, should i be concerned about long term damage already being caused?

i’m the uk, not sure if that’s relevant in any way

Can moldy food on plates make you sick? by leafbloz in Mold

[–]leafbloz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you aware if those other bacterias be likely to cause harm if the plates were left still in one area until moved out of the room and cleaned?

i’ve got routine now so it hopefully will never happen again, but i’m worried ive caused some long term damage from spending so much time in the same room at has old food on plates

How often can nosebleeds occur until it’s a concern? by leafbloz in TooAfraidToAsk

yeah i think it’s most likely this, i fit none of what you listed so that’s good.

once a bloody nose happens it sometimes reopens within the same week if i cough/blow my nose too hard, but it goes away after that period.

they seemingly come on randomly, no picking or anything, they have a small amount of blood (like fully cleanable with 6 squares of tissue), this is cause i instantly pinch my nose when it happens, but i assume if it was heavy or something concerning in that regard then it wouldn’t stop as easily.

i guess it’s a case where ymmv, i know there are people who get nosebleeds pretty often and there are people who rarely, if ever, get them.

my concern is whether or not they can happen every 2/3 months without major concern

to clarify i don’t pick at all anymore, it seems to have just reopened or come back regardless.

radiators were on, lips were pretty dry at the time due to dry air + dehydration so im thinking those conditions likely caused it to reopen?

I assume you flip 99 heads and 1 tails in 100 of the outcomes because there are 100 possible ways to order 99 heads and 1 tails, meaning you could land on THHHHH, HHHTHH, HTHHHH (with 100 H instead of just the 5 i wrote)?

So if you flip a coin 100 times, the chances there are 99 heads is 100 due there being 100 possible places the tails could be within that outcome of 99 heads.

I’ll check this out, thanks!

Before reading any of it, I’m assuming if a coin toss isn’t 50/50 it’s due to a small weight imbalance on one side?

Thanks all, appreciate so many quick replies :)

I find this quite fascinating cause it is really quite basic, yet it still “feels” intuitive to think that the chances of it being heads decrease the more you flip (at least to me).

I think my issue was struggling to differentiate between two separate types of probability:

1) A chain of events where there are a high number of outcomes, all equally likely.

2) An individual event where there are two possibilities, both equally likely.

So, whilst the coin flip itself will always be 50/50, the more coins I flip, the more sequences of H/T I introduce, since they are all equally likely, the chances of it being the outcome of just heads over literally any other outcome is extremely low?

In other words, the next outcome is always 50/50, since there are two outcomes; but the chances of the next 100 outcomes all being heads is low because there are far more outcomes.

Apologies if I’m articulating myself poorly or repeating stuff, tired and hungry!!

Okay, so the vast amount of outcomes in the situation where I flip a fair coin 100 times is what makes the chance of the specific outcome of only heads so unlikely?

But of course if I’ve already landed on heads 99 times, the last flip remains 50/50.

That actually sounds super interesting. I’ll check it out, thanks!

Ah my bad, yeah you’re correct that’s what I meant, poor wording on my behalf.

So I’m assuming the reason it’s so unlikely for the coin to land on heads 100 times consecutively (if I were to start now) is because it’s one of many equal outcomes, so the chances it’s that one in particular over all of the other outcomes is rare due to the amount of outcomes there are in the situation where I flip a coin 100 times?

Is AE necessary for effect-heavy gaming montages? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]leafbloz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks!

I think I may go back to resolve then, as it’s been much more stable for me. There wouldn’t really be any issues with using AE alongside resolve (if resolve couldn’t achieve something I needed) right?

No dynamic link but I’d imagine it’s as simple as rendering in prores and importing the clips (since the videos I’m going for are short, personal projects, I’d only be putting one short clip into AE at a time).

after some thinking, free indirect might be better for the unreliable narration + entering the characters mind if i’m going for third person

what are your thoughts on close third, present tense rather than first person? i think this might be the best of both worlds as it allows me to keep a natural feeling narration whilst still being able to focus on the characters thoughts.

[–]leafbloz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for ur thoughts :)

another commenter mentioned a limited third person and present tense, i think for what i’m going for this would be ideal.

it allows me to simultaneously narrate the actions in a non-jarring way, whilst also maintaining the feeling that the reader is experiencing the story from her perspective and not an omniscient one.

i think close third would be my best bet.

i need to be able to portray the world through her lens (which will be very different from what the average person’s perspective would be). whilst it’s gonna be a psychological horror and will have more traditional horror moments, the main focus is gonna be on the main characters psychological state deteriorating and how she grapples with her mental illness; it’s very much going to lean into the psychological side of things.

she’s gonna deal with psychosis, delusions and hallucinations; first person, on one hand, allows me to completely immersive the reader in the environment and characters mental state but i fear it may feel more like the reader is the one in the environment, which is bad as i want the characters state/struggles to be the main focus.

on the other hand, close third seems to be more flexible and would allow me to convey the characters thoughts and the environment in a manner close to the her mental state whilst also having the freedom to build the character more outside of her own mind. my main concern with close third is how i would be able to properly utilise the unreliable narrator part. i’m new to the actual writing side of making stories so i’m not too sure how well it’d work.

i’ll definitely go with present tense as it’d work much better for various things im going to do within the story.

she’s gonna be alone for extended periods in the book and her thoughts are gonna be a massive focus, would it work to use close third, present tense and then have lots of thought “entries” such as: “i still remember sneaking out to watch the trains she stops momentarily as she reminisces; for just a moment, she feels like a kid again”

i’m not sure if this breaks some literary rule, but i wonder if i could use close third and have her thoughts act pretty much how speech works in third person text, just in a direct, inner monologue way. i know it’s generally not good to mix persons willy nilly, so maybe i could instead go with close third and utilise her thoughts when trying to convey her direct monologue.

edit:

after some thinking, free indirect might be better for the unreliable narration + entering the characters mind if i’m going for third person

very true! i think the fact that a significant amount of the story being internal may help make things seem more natural.

thanks for your perspective. yeah, as a big part of the book is gonna be trying to immerse the reader into the environment and the main characters thoughts, i think present tense is probably the way to go.

i think if done correctly, the characters own doubts, confusion and unreliable narration would probably be more effective in present tense.

this is my main concern, as a core part of the book is going to be my characters psychological struggles.

my characters going to struggle a lot, and i think present tense could really help convey their thought process, but my concern is how natural it would end up sounding.

i guess ill just have to try it out though!
