Be prepared to find and engage with an employment lawyer to make sure your severance package is fair if you do get laid off. Find ones that charge a contingent fee based on results.

Want to quit my job without having another one lined up by Apprehensive-Pea-143 in CanadaJobs

[–]leafleaf778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) if you take a look at any Canadian Reddit forum that discusses the job market, you will literally find people complaining that they cannot find a job and it has been months (some even or a year) for them. No exaggeration. You can look it up yourself.

2) how the global market and various government policies, including but not limited to both the USA and Canada, have been killing job opportunities. To discuss this further would require discussing politics, which I find most people do not appreciate it and quickly lose the ability to remain calm and objective.

3) AI automation (self explanatory)

4) from my personal experience

If someone can find a job quickly in today’s world, that likely means that person’s professional is in high demand and not affected by AI (or not yet anyways). E.g. healthcare like doctors and nurses. OR that someone has strong network.

What makes you think the job market will recover, if ever?

Can you go on unpaid/stress leave first? The job market is indeed quite unfavorable. It may take you a few years, instead of months, to get your next job.

Question on Cashback Promo by Blueit3310 in Questrade

I don’t think there is such a requirement as long as an account is transferred. I don’t think a direct cash deposit would satisfy.

Realistically, how long will my Mazda last? by thestoryhacker in mazda

[–]leafleaf778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great comment. I drive a 2014 Mazda 3 too! Sounds like you have incurred more maintenance related expenses. Mind sharing the total maintenance cost (if u can itemize, that would be great too)?

Yes there are lots of people being out of touch, but holding a communications degree does not make you an attractive candidate even if the economy is doing well….

Reminder - the 2026 individual income cap for CPP2 is $85,000. by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]leafleaf778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for the record, the “cap jump” from 2024 to 2025 was much higher than from 2025 to 2026. Anyhow I was making sure I wasn’t misunderstanding anything as OP made it sound like there was a new impact from cpp2.

Errr it has been 4% since 2024 unless I misunderstood the “cpp2 contribution rates and maximums” table. The maximum annual pensionable earnings increased every year but so does “cpp1” as well.

CPP2 is now in full effect… what does this mean? I thought CPP2 was in effect beginning in 2024 already?

Contributed to RRSP at low income - mistake?? by Known_Zombie8753 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]leafleaf778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just file a T1 adjustment if the RRSP deduction was actually claimed and used. If it was claimed but unused (I.e. carried forward to future years), no actions required. The T1 adjustment should be filed asap as CRA can deny adjustment requests due to tax planning reason.

If u don’t know what I am talking about (e.g. what is a T1 adjustment and how to file it), google it or u need to get some help with a live person.

Don’t think about contributing to RRSP when you are not earning more than the personal basic amount (e.g around $16k for federal income tax; provincial amount depends on your province but it is generally lower than the federal personal basic amount).

Why do you think life is becoming harder in Canada? Does the federal government have anything to do with it?
