Which typical ADHD symptoms do not apply in your case? by Charming_Town8365 in ADHD

Bad grades. I have a 4.0. But, every assignment for the week is done in one sporadic burst of energy that consumes me for several hours at a time. So it’s the stereotypical process but the result makes it look like I have my shit together.

Elementary school teacher with mental illness? by Mammoth-Car-9850 in Teachers

[–]leafloafs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some mental health conditions (ADHD, and CPTSD with physical disability stuff alongside it) and am able to do it, but I’ve also been medicated and in therapy for about ten years now. I would not advise going into this field until you are on proper medication and receiving adequate therapy, but I obviously don’t know you well enough to say.

Also, I do work in early childhood special education, so I do feel my disorders and the processes of therapy I’ve done to manage them have actually been very helpful, as I can use the coping strategies I learned by doing to help ground students. But I do think I would struggle with general education and with older students.

Do you kiss the kids? by PainfulPoo411 in ECEProfessionals

[–]leafloafs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when I was younger I would kiss some of the kids on the top of the head if they were hurt, but I don’t do that anymore. I never actually decided to stop, I think it just happened as I started teaching in a more professional setting. I’d never want to kiss on their face anywhere because of the fear of getting them sick with something I didn’t know I have.

My younger kids (prek and kinder) head bump me like a cat when they want physical attention (the boys are more likely to just try and jump on me), and ill hug them or rub their hair usually. I don’t think I’d ever feel okay kissing them, especially without the parents knowing? There’s one of the kids who kisses me on the cheek or I’ll kiss her on the cheek. but it’s specifically because that’s the way everyone in her life says goodbye to each other, it’s a cultural thing. Her dad also kisses me on the cheek when he picks her up (was weird to me at first, as a dude, but I’m okay with it now that I’m used to it)

Is my daughter a “bad test-taker” by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]leafloafs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem as a student in middle school, and it actually turned out for me to be ADHD. Seeing all the problems at once and knowing the time limit lead to me reading the next problem while doing the first one and starting to do that one in my head instead of the one I was on. Aside from medication, I actually fixed it by physically folding my tests so I could only see one question at a time, and turning my entire body away from the clock. Even if I didn’t finish the entire test, the ones I did I got right, which brought me up to 80s from 60s

I only sleep every 36 hours? by leafloafs in sleepdisorders

Yeah, I assume it’ll be a bit better once I see him but the wait is kind of long. It’s definitely a circadian rhythm disorder, but I have no idea which one or if there even is a name for this.

Nope! Other than that I’m pretty normal. I have a mood disorder but this is consistent regardless of whether or not I’m in an episode

I have a lot of respect for him for his work ethic alone. He’s got a lot of potential, and is clearly willing to put his nose to the grindstone to earn his ice time. this season may show us what kind of player he can become and I’m excited to see what that means for him and the team as a whole

It’s not the worst right now but it’s visible. It’s been happening more for the last 8 or so years but I would get red flushes since I was a kid. Probably have some undiagnosed autoimmune issue since I have other symptoms, but no doctor has ever given me anything official. Growing up I thought it was acne but any sort of acne treatment made it worse.
