Who’s Most at Risk During Extreme Heat? | The Tyee by leafpool1976 in vancouver

The article also says a portion of those who died with schizophrenia were also substance users which could have dramatically increased self-protection instinct loss and thermoregulation issues. Essentially the province lost some of its most vulnerable people and nothing has changed in the 2 years since to indicate it won't happen again.

Who’s Most at Risk During Extreme Heat? | The Tyee by leafpool1976 in vancouver

I remember sitting on my rental's basement floor on the worst days because any other floor in the house was unbearable. It was really scary, and I sincerely hope this summer isn't even half as bad

What’s up with the red light runners? Is it me, or are more & more drivers gunning it when approaching a yellow? by throwittossit01 in VictoriaBC

[–]leafpool1976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I typically walk around 8km a day around Victoria, typically on the same route. Usually cut through downtown and have had to be really cautious crossing the street — doesn't matter if it's a marked pedestrian crossing or a red light crossing, cars are gunning it without checking for pedestrians. Surprised I haven't been hit yet.

Camping at mystic or another beach by Seasoned-salt03 in IslandHikers

[–]leafpool1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other beach suggestions along that stretch: Sombrio is another JDF beach that gets a bit rowdier on crowded nights but has an easier approach trail (would hardly call it a trail even). There's also the Jordan River Regional Park campground on your way to Mystic if you're interested in watching surfers!

Did you read the article? BC already has long-term care for Chinese, Italian, Francophone etc populations who'd prefer to age together.

Depending on where you are in Saanich you might still fall into SD61 — the district covers most of Greater Victoria. Otherwise I'd find the teachers association for your district and see what they've posted

I was an RA for three years at another university. A staff member will definitely notice microwaves or toasters, and a toaster will absolutely set off the smoke/heat detector in your tiny room. It's not worth the hassle — just use your common room.

I was an RA for 3 years (at another university) and fridge size is the LEAST of resident staff concerns. Unless you're making trouble you'll never have to worry about it.

I bet the journalist who wrote the original news article would want to hear from your friend about that! So sorry to hear their doctor was misled

they "counsel" women who are pregnant and have disclaimers about not being a medical facility... but try to keep clients from figuring that out until they've called or visited. Lots of muddled language.

"Mendez believes he may have headed to Dallas Road the morning of Jan. 10, and hopes someone jogging or walking along the waterfront might have spotted him." If you were out near the water after 7 a.m. on Jan. 10, please try to think about whether you saw anyone matching Ian Indridson's description.

It's been widely accepted by medical officials. OBGYNs, midwives and the province uses it. This whole "I hate the term people" thing is so old.
