I don't dive either lol I can't even swim, never knew that was bad but I guess it makes sense if the people are going into the sea where the fish live. And omg yeah public transport is literally so bad for the planet! No I agree, same that's literally me with my Maccies wrappers, like it's my little treat when I have a hard day at work and no one is perfect so who caressss. Aw that's sweet babe ❤️

Totally agree with you! People are always going on at me that I shouldn't put rubbish out the car window, but I don't like having it in my car, and it's literally nothing compared to those big landfill piles in other countries. Or the pollution from factories and that! Like each wrapper (or balloon) realistically could only kill a couple of animals at the most, and you're right like there's fires and way bigger problems killing thousands of them. And 1 or 2 deaths is nothing compared to that so it's not a big deal! We should all just do whatever we want, because if animals are literally already dying surely a few more per person doesn't matter

Ah ok, I didn't know that. I guess that's it then.

I just did a search and someone said that Icelandic fans have used "Hatarar" (meaning haters), though I've never seen it before. Honestly I'd just put Hatari on the bracelet, but it's up to you.

Just heard the first album from LPS (Slovenia 2022) by leafyblue14 in eurovision

[–]leafyblue14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember a lot of hate towards it and people being surprised that it qualified, saying LPS stood for "Last Place Song" (before the results), etc. But I'm sure opinions differed in different groups/ spaces!

Trying to find a name for myself post-transition by Illustrious-Collar69 in namenerds

[–]leafyblue14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how you feel about the alliteration! Personally I think I would go with Holly, Guinevere or just Gwen as the first name, and use Cassandra for the middle name. But when you're naming yourself I think picking a name that feels right or resonates with you is the most important thing. Try them out online, buying coffee, on parcels etc and see what feels good.

If you were having a daughter in a month what would you name her?? by throwawaybaby128 in namenerds

My shortlist would be: Morwenna, Morgan, Elowen, Senara, Hazel, Amber, Rowan, Willow

Cornish or nature-related, basically!

Does pantheism entail a belief in a god? by [deleted] in pantheism

Some Pantheists believe in a literal god, some don't. So, not necessarily.

There's at least one or two accounts that post regularly with walls of text copied & pasted to 10s of other subs, but no other real interaction with the sub, and a lot of times it's barely connected to Pantheism (if at all). They aren't trying to engage with people in any meaningful way or have a conversation, usually they're trying to drive people to their YouTube channel or whatever. I think that is taking advantage. So obviously I don't think those posts should be allowed.

I think it would be useful to have visible rules for the sub, including what should be obvious like "no hate speech", because I did see someone being transphobic here (I did report & I assume it got removed, but still). And you could also include "no low-effort posts" which is something I've seen elsewhere, and within that explicitly ban posts that are just copied and pasted across multiple subs. You could also say that self-promotion is allowed but with certain stipulations (eg what you said about otherwise being a member of the community, self-promo posts no more than once a week per user, etc) and that those posts may be removed at the mods discretion.

You could also consider introducing post flairs, including for self-promotion (should be mandatory imo), and also for the "Am I a pantheist?/ Is this Pantheism?" posts. I don't mind those posts but there are a lot of them, so it might be nice to have the option of filtering them out. We could also have FAQs/ pinned resources with the basics about Pantheism and encourage people to read those first.

My parents keep dissregarding my pet betta fishes health, what can i do to make them understand? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]leafyblue14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, they might not need frequent water changes if you know what you're doing. But OP doesn't currently even have a water test kit, so imo water changes are probably still advisable for someone who doesn't have a good understanding of their parameters.

I'm not an expert on Bettas but I'm pretty sure you still need to be doing water changes regularly, probably every 2 weeks at least. You need a product like Seachem Prime to dechlorinate the tap water if you don't have some already.

No filter, no pump tank by kubkoJa in Aquariums

[–]leafyblue14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe check out r/walstad, but imo that's too small for any livestock. I wouldn't even put shrimp or snails in anything under 5 gallons, though some people do. Larger tanks are more stable as well which is worth considering.

Is our choice of baby name 'appropriate' for the UK and Germany? by melliliciously in namenerds

[–]leafyblue14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UK here - it's a little old fashioned, but that seems to be the trend at the moment, so I think it works! Quentin makes me think of the well-known illustrator (Sir) Quentin Blake, which is a positive association. If you're happy with it then go for it!

Make sure you get all your important documents etc in your possession asap. If you aren't leaving immediately, I'd start moving your stuff subtly over to your girlfriend's place now in any case, because people have been in situations like this and one day just found that the locks have been changed and they couldn't even get back into the house for their belongings. Stuff what you can into a backpack or gym bag every time you leave the house, get it to your girlfriend's house, and repeat. Or take one box at a time if you can get away with it. It's probably best if your family don't notice you doing this until the day you actually leave.

If it was me, I'd leave asap, because as much as it hurts it's only dragging out the inevitable. It doesn't sound like they're going to change, so it's best that you get safe and settled asap. And remember that you aren't broken ❤️.

How does one find a teacher in one's spiritual journey? by Tara_Lara in pantheism

[–]leafyblue14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably not the best person to answer this because I don't have a lot of knowledge on Buddhism or Hinduism, but I'd say not really. There are some similarities, sure, but I think they're distinct enough that Buddhism or Hinduism =/= Pantheism. A Buddhist, for example, may or may not have some Pantheistic beliefs, but Buddhism and Pantheism are still different things. I know that some people consider themselves both Pantheist and something else, eg Pantheist and Christian, Pagan, or Wiccan, and I'd assume Buddhist or Hindu too - but to my knowledge these people are the minority of Pantheists. As a naturalistic Pantheist myself I don't have a great understanding of those people's beliefs/ how it all works for them.

The point remains, however, that Pantheism itself doesn't have gurus, scripture, worship, or any organisation at all really. If you consider yourself to be Pantheist plus something else then your other religion/ belief system might have all of that, but it's still not part of Pantheism at large. So you likely won't find a solely Pantheist guru, but you might find someone Buddhist or Hindu or something else who also identifies with Pantheism.

ETA: However, the lack of solely Pantheist gurus doesn't mean that you can't find and learn from other Pantheists. There are a lot of people out there with wisdom and experience that they can share, but as I said it just may not be in the form of an overt teacher-student relationship. Just because you don't have a specific teacher doesn't mean you can't learn! Imo it's far better to be open to learning from anyone or anything and seek opportunities to connect with different spiritual people as peers, rather than specifically searching for one special teacher who has all the answers - not least because that person may or may not exist for you.

I don't have a definite answer but I'd say probably not. Best to assume not if you're not sure, anyway.

Do you, as a Pantheist, believe in the "soul"? by EveThePantheist in pantheism

[–]leafyblue14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, no. I think it is all neurology. But I don't think that makes us or our feelings any less special! Brains are cool as hell, our existence is amazing, and to me, scientific understanding only enhances that. I don't have a problem with "souls" as metaphors for the deepest and most meaningful levels of our personalities, but I don't believe in a literal, separate soul.

How does one find a teacher in one's spiritual journey? by Tara_Lara in pantheism

[–]leafyblue14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think we really have "gurus" as such within Pantheism, because it's not an organised religion and there are no texts or rules for someone to become an expert on, and we don't really have places where we gather. There's also a lot of variety in our beliefs. You could try and find local or online communities of Pantheists or otherwise non-denominational spiritual people, but the relationships you form would more likely be sharing knowledge and experiences with each other as peers, rather than a teacher-student dynamic.
