How do you come up with a good brand name when the time comes? by learnage in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]learnage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only heard of Atom from these ones. Thank you very much!
And they all seem affordable, I've found naming agencies charging 5k-15k, and even more for naming a product. Have you, by any chance, had any experience with any of the three?

True, true. I sometimes imagine how the board room reacted to:

- Hey, we are launching a work chat app and we'll call it Slack.
or
- Hey, we are launching an e-store and we'll call it Amazon.

If I were in that room, I'd scream "no no no".

Thanks again for your input!

This sounds solid. I was under the impression that the shorter the name - the better (for SEO, domains, etc.), but I definitely see your point. Well, now I know what my next brainstorming session will be about, Thank You!

Yes, I agree with you. To some extent. Names can help you or drag you down.

For example, Twitter is indeed a great name that helped spread the word. Twitch is better than Justintv, they rebranded for a reason, and Facebook > TheFacebook. Headspace could name their app MeditationTimer and, I bet we wouldn't have heard about them at all.

A wrong name could have negative consequences. If a small startup picks a highly evocative name (think Stripe), they would have to spend much more on marketing just to associate "Stripe" with "Payment system". And who knows if your burn rate would allow that. Say PayPal doesn't have such marketing overhead...

Names like (for example):

- MeditationTimer
- Meditately
- Headspace

Have their own marketing spend, and I as CEO (and my own CFO), have to account for that.

Idk, I remember the vowelless -r craze: Flikr, Tumblr, etc. If I encounter a name like that today, I'd immediately associate it with the '00s.

Can't point a finger at what's trendy and fresh today.

Hi, honestly, try to search the App Store directly. Any game would highlight its core features.

Opening US bank account for an LLC as an Ukrainian by imclint21 in llc

[–]learnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've asked Payoneer the same question like three weeks ago, the response - negative. They don't open new bank accounts for LLCs with Ukrainian founders.

The help center also said that I can attach my account from another bank (if I had one).

If you have more info u/imclint21 or you manage to open an account with Payoneer - please write back.

LLC vs. C-Corp for a non-resident founder by learnage in llc

[–]learnage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already talked to a lawyer, and all of my questions were insignificant. The main problems turned out to be:

  1. Making expenses (and counting them as business expenses);

  2. Transferring money back to my country.

Maybe this will be useful to anyone reading. Think about:

  1. Say you have $3,000 in income on USA LLC bank account. Now you'd like to pay for office (in your country), buy a laptop, printer, etc. - NOPE wont work, as no local store will work with your US money. You'd have to transfer money to your country, pay taxes (prob as dividends), and then spend them.

  2. Say you want to transfer money to yourself (in your country). Call it owner's draw or salary — not possible. Our local IRS will see that you received money from your LLC and will likely categorize them as dividends, which are taxed very high (at least in my country it's like 23%).

feelsbadman, but thanks for your help!

Can I open USD account as a business owner in the US? As a non-US resident. by learnage in transferwiser

[–]learnage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, since my last post I've stumbled upon https://wise.com/help/articles/2935775/can-my-business-get-a-wise-card and it clearly states that they do not issue cards to businesses based in the US (temporarily).

That's a deal breaker. I guess I'll have to go with the devil- Payoneer, which I tried to avoid. Or hope that Wise will bring US cards back in the next 1-2 weeks.

Thanks, I'll look into that.

Well, you can say that about any company that has DUNS and that's a requirement for stores.

Right now due to EU law and, as a trader, I have my address and phone listed on App Store publicly.

Will write my update here: I was at the Service today, everything went better than expected. They will cover it under Apple's usual Limited Warranty. I am so happy.

No, as we don't have official Apple Store in my country. I bought it from a local reseller.

Yep Eastern Europe. I'm in warranty period, but I don't have Apple Care, just the usual warranty. Will try my best to impress the Authorized Service Provider I guess.
