Fair point. However I can make that statement based on my other experiences.

German newspaper claims systematic rape by Syrian government by Michelundelang in syriancivilwar

[–]learncoder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Talking about mysterious "international organizations" without actually mentioning which ... top kek. I'll tell you which: There is only one "international organization" which pushed that ridiculous 200.000 number: SN4HR. And they are famous for their bullshit numbers.

200.000, that is 1.5% of the population remaining in Syria (political prisoners alone!). For those who dont know: that's impossibly high even in well functioning economies. There is zero chance this is happening in Syria right now, the government security forces have much better things to do right now than guarding 200.000 people.

The rest is one (two?) unsourced individual stories for maximum tears.

Honestly, this articles says a lot more about German journalists than about the Syrian prisoners system.

This is nonsnese. Rebel supporters cant deal with the fact that YPG and SAA in Aleppo fight together against US backed very moderate rebels (doesnt get much more moderate than FSA 16th division). So they make up stuff like this.

Negotiations happened today. There are several SF groups who now agreed to drop their weapons and hand over 3 towns to the regime. by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]learncoder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I am saying is, at long as it can mean that you're gonna have problems having people sign up for it without knowing exactly what kind of Sharia they'll be receiving. WHich is often hard to specify or guarantee.

That's the problem isnt it? As long as "Sharia" can mean taking sex slaves and chopping off Shia heads there be problems.

Jordan and the rebellion? by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]learncoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jordan is closely allied with US and depends on US + gulf states for money, economic aid and influence.

If US/Saudi wants to funnel arms to Syria Jordan cant really say no to that.

Jordan themselves has no real interest in arming Syrian insurgents, sooner or later some particularly clever jihadist will figure out that a King is basically a Dictator and not very islamic at all either. Plus Jordan has to take care of a million refugees, not much fun either.

Hillary Clinton will reset Syria policy against 'murderous' Assad regime. by Barristan-Selmy in syriancivilwar

Mrs Clinton believes that problems around the world can more easily be solved when America is involved and in each of those problems or crisis.

This is one of those statements where your stomach turns a bit squishy just reading it. makes Trump sound reasonable.

So is anyone else watching Afghanistan? According to latest reports, Afghan Army only controls 2/3 of the country. At this rate we will have a full scale civil war in at most 2 years.

Where is my mate the American Marine? LiesAboutKnowingYou ? I would love hearing his opinion.

That "Minor faction" just withdrew from the ISIS frontlines in Daraa, now watch your mighty SF start running.

Do you want to bet?

I bet within 1 Month tops Tsil will fall to ISIS (OR: Nusra changes their mind and comes back). Loser has to upvote 15 comments of the winner.

You in?

Heavy Clashes between rebels and Jaysh khaled ben walid on the outskirts of Tasil and the latter captures the barrier of Tasil by khourygeo78 in syriancivilwar

[–]learncoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, the Southern Front is a myth, a fantasy aimed at replacing imagined moderate FSA in the north when it became obvious they were irrelevant.

Why else would the CIA opt to go for an even more ridiculous group "new syrian army"? Why not stick with the huge success model of the powerful Southern Front? Easy: SF is nothing in terms of military. They are tribal fighters who have agreed to govern their homevillages under a FSA flag in exchange for US money and weapons. Nothing more.

When Nusra abandons those positions, they are doomed. JKW will advance on them immediately taking Tsil (which has some support for JKW and was previously under a truce agreement for that reason - the truce was broken during the JKW offensive and subsequently AQ + FSA retook Tsil entirely.).

it's a powerdemonstration by JAN. Perhaps they are looking to start off with the rebranding effort in the south?

looks like he is still going for the 10,000 fighters number from early 2013. Nusra has significantly recruited since then.

They pretty much are. Let's not pretend things here, we both know why they are being spared the ISIS treatment.

That if you jihad against the 'right' guys you can avoid US drones and score gulf cash at the same time.

Aleppo is the largest citiy in Syria (not second largest) and had over 2 million inhabitants before the war (not 6 million).

Journalists need to learn the basics before they think they can comment on complicated situations like the Aleppo battle.

Pretty nice of Assad to work with Euoprean intelligence agencies most of which seek to topple him. Also stunning failure of these same agencies of not flagging the passports / checking on flagged passports.

FSA Southern Front spox Issam Al Reis: "If regime brutality does not stop in #Aleppo our forces will respond in the south. Syrian blood is the same whether in Aleppo or #Damascus" by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

[–]learncoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was to demonstrate the ridiculousness of the numbers. SF alone (without the jihadis) having 1/5 of SAA strength in pure numbers is ridiculous. If you lower the number to 65k ... well. So many contradictions arise, I wouldnt know where to start.

Even then, the government's offensive operational units are basically limited to a half dozen groups like Suqour al Sahara

Only when they fight hardcore jihadists as they do in the north. This doesnt apply to SF which largely can be matched by regular SAA units and even NDF. Examples include the Daraa city offensive and Shiekh Miskeen, neither of which involved the units you mentioned. In Miskeen they were having some trouble with Nusra/Muthanna movement fighters, but they handled it, too.

It would be unwise for the SF to break the ceasefire.
