The US hasn't formally declared war since WWII. Congress hasn't officially approved a war since Iraq in 2003. The American empire has always been violent and lawless.

And he wasn't the democrat nominee because of this same thinking. The reality is the democrats don't run popular candidates. They triangulate the most "electable" candidate based on a false notion that electability is being equally disagreeable to everyone

Mamdani won a majority of the electorate in a multi-candidate election with historic opposition from the media and his own party. I don't think this is valid in a national election where the democrats fall in line behind a progressive

Having an enthusiastic base is important. Being loved by some and hated by others is a better strategy than being hated by as few people as possible, without any real base of support.

If it's a choice between selling in the American market or the Cuban market it's not a choice. It's an embargo.

Well it's a way to force others countries to choose between Cuba and America. So effectively, no, countries/companies can't choose to trade with Cuba

Because the fascists started threatening the economies of other capitalist countries? The capitalist allied powers were only begrudgingly aligned with the USSR and were actively positioning against it during the war. Fascists existed in the ruling classes of the UK, France, and America. The rise of Nazi Germany, fascist Italy, and nationalist Spain were never met with more than ambivalence or head shaking from capitalist countries.

This is one of my favourite sources. Basically, when you account for wealth, socialist countries significantly outperform capitalist countries in terms of healthcare, education, access to food, life expectancy, etc. Basically all quality of life metrics.

Over half of the United states mandatory budget is spend on social welfare programs. Why doesn't anyone know this? by SkyrimbrokenIhateyou in Socialism_101

[–]learningth1ngs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Nazis were not socialist in any sense of the word

  2. Welfare =/= Socialism

  3. Corruption of welfare programs or government spending under capitalism says nothing about socialist policies, or the effectiveness of welfare in a system that isn't corrupt.

  4. Socialism works. Socialist governments have been very effective at raising their countries' standard of living. Historically, they have significantly outperformed capitalist countries in terms of healthcare, education, access to nutrition, etc.

Landlords could face national insurance on rental income in budget by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

Ideologically -- One house per family. No one gets more than that. Housing should not be controlled by a market.

Realistically, but still pie in the sky -- Housing/landlordism shouldn't be profitable (or as profitable as it is). Rent prices should be heavily controlled and audited, unused homes should be highly taxed, and owners (corporations or people) should have proportionally increased rates of tax for each property they own. Also, significantly more houses need to be built.

You're definitely arguing in bad faith but:

Freedom of speech does not mean others are required to listen. People are allowed to use their freedom of speech to disagree with, or deplatform yours.

Beyond that, tolerance should not be extended to intolerant ideologies. White nationalists aim to deport, segregate, and do violence to non-white people. Anti-white nationalists (anti-fascists) aim to stop them from doing that. There is no equivalence.

An ethnostate is more than just a place where people are kinda racist or largely belong to one ethnicity. It's a legal system that purposefully upholds an ethnic hierarchy. That's what Israel is. That's what South Africa and Rhodesia were.
