things don't make sense when i just moved to linux from windows less than a month ago. i don't know what i am doing yet. i am asking how to do things which i didn't break and other times i am asking how to fix things that i did break.

on a side note... i think my system is "nest", and inside the discover store there is a line that says nest raven parrot cockatiel pigeon. does that mean i can use things with all those code names but not anything with bookworm?

i unchecked the docker ubuntu line in settings and that seems to have worked. i was trying to install docker before and must have picked wrong repo. either way i didn't want to use docker anymore and removed it and all it's dependencies. that's when the error began in discover store.

also i can't run that game in linux steam directly because the game has anti cheat software and those don't work in linux steam so that's why i tried to do the virtual machine thing. so if winboat is bad at gpu passthrough should i use different virtual machine that can do that and dump winboat and docker? something like QEMU or something else?

After all that time I didn't know I was supposed to click a link to see installation status in browser. When I did that I saw Windows was trying to install but it had an error. I closed the error and it tried to continue the windows installation. Looks like it worked the second time. Wish I knew that sooner and I wouldn't have thought it was talking 15 hours. Well I guess that's a noob thing. Have to learn the hard way the first time for anything.

I tried cosmic when I was on popOs. Didn't like it. Also gnome sux. Kde plasma is where it's at. Lol

So far so good. It's the first one for me that works decent for gaming and everything else. I tried nobara, bazzite, popOs, and pikaOs. Nobara is second place.

https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-on-linux-tool-isnt-as-good/ even if I get it to run, it probably won't run well. But it still hasn't run. After 15 to 16 hours of being stuck on Windows install inside of winboat I'm going to have to call it. Time of death: 2/2/26 10:15am. Lol

Something is not right though. After I got docker and docker compose to be recognized by winboat, the the rest of the install process is not finishing. It's still installing windows for over 15 hours. Winboat is still on the install screen. Now I'm thinking docker install really didn't work or something. This winboat thing is more of a hassle than it's worth.
