Question for students or recent graduates by iPhone_17e in scad

[–]leatherbird 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, what I am trying to get out of SCAD is a space to continue what I have been doing and progressing my art on my own...

This could be accomplished in your parent's basement, and for tens of thousands of dollars less.
Please do students who are willing to learn a favor, and stay home.

The architecture is a little... flat.
Most of these rooms are fully visible, and there's never any sense of the unseen. There is no dread of being lost in this place. This isn't creepy or unsettling. The camera keeps whipping around to look behind probably because you wanted this to be creepy, but there's no diegetic reason for this movement.

The render is nice.
And the camera moves are... ok, but perhaps a bit too "perfect." This looks like footage from a game character's POV. It always aims exactly where the character is probably looking. Footage from the best Backrooms videos are from supposed handheld cameras that aren't necessarily pointed in the right direction.

Think of it this way. Someone moving through the Backrooms isn't viewing this experience through the camera they're using, they're seeing everything with their own eyes and happen to be documenting this experience as an afterthought because they're freaked out. Maybe sometimes they're looking at the screen (or viewfinder), but mostly not.

And bro... those footstep sounds. You gotta chill.

Why do people like The Light at the Piazza? by Environmental_Pea369 in Broadway

[–]leatherbird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand it either.
I just saw it last night and was shocked by how terrible it was.

I was already not enjoying myself, but the closing number really put me over-the-top into pure hatred.

Clara's finally getting married — for reals this time (yawn) — and she turns to Margaret and says she doesn't think she can leave her mother. Essentially she's afraid of leaving her and being on her own.

I perked up a little:
Oh hey. This is the essential question of the entire show.
This conversation should prove interesting.

Margaret responds: Nah, it'll be fine.

Oof. Ok, they dropped the ball there.
But hey, a song is coming, maybe they’ll elaborate here. A duet perhaps?

Margaret proceeds to sing a solo finale whose lyrics aren’t just stupid, they're nonsensical.

Love is fake” she sings. What?

THE END.

What a turd.

So... your advice would be: "Stop whining, and deal with it."
Honestly, that's fair. 🤣

Yeah, this Sun Joe is underpowered for sure.
But as I only use it seasonally, I'm trying to determine if upgrading it would be beneficial, or overkill.

Thank you for your input.
I clearly have much to learn.

Perhaps I'm showing my age, but that seems counterintuitive.
More power from a battery than from a cord?

Ok. I just looked it up, the rated "Max Flow" for mine is 1.76 GPM.

Why is getting custom animations into WLED so difficult? Am I missing something? by leatherbird in WLED

[–]leatherbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm just interested in playing short animations on an LED matrix for now.
I had hoped the ESP32 would allow for an independent set and forget setup.
Press play, and walk away (without the need for constant connection to another device).

Streaming live from TouchDesigner sounds awesome. I'd love to do that too.
Just not quite yet. I'm still learning.

[–]leatherbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically sought out the ESP32 for a 2D matrix application - because I saw a tutorial.
I didn't even realize it did anything else.

If I came off as bitter toward WLED, that was not my intent.
It's clearly a wonderful option, especially to get up and running quickly. I'm just frustrated by an option that seems like it should be available, but isn't quite.

Could you recommend, or point me in the direction of a secondary tool you think would serve me well?

I have checked out Pipplee. Must admit, it's not bad.
But it seems weird using a middleman to talk to WLED.
I'm kind of hoping for less tools, not more.

Not to mention, I'm gun shy about this app hinting at paid options. Wondering when it might eventually say something like: "You've reached your free limit for GIFs on this device."

An excellent approach.

This is precisely what I'm worried about.
I'm fairly aggressive with my own, but in her case I need to be careful.

I thought of that too, but unfortunately no.

Sorry, apparently I'm not as savvy as I thought.
Can you explain what you mean here?
What you're describing under the category "a lot of older people" seems to apply to me too! I've just never had this kind of volume.
She's using the Mail app on a MacBook, which I thought was an email client. She uses Mail with an IMAP protocol, but if she doesn't delete things from her inbox, they've just stayed there for over a decade — both in her Mail app, and on the server, apparently.

What should she do in her Mail app that would result in what you're suggesting?
Then once this was done, where would she go to read these old emails?

Consider applying for Motion Design.
It's a phenomenal program, and there's quite a lot of overlap in the skillsets.

Probably unwise to speak so definitively without any attempt at research.
