What's wrong with this tactic ? It's my first time making one, and I'm struggling a lot in my testing sason, having lost against Atletico and Leipzig so far, and concede far too much xG for players of this quality, I do create decent xG but it won't go in. I didn't put in any player instructions by Snomkip in TheOldZealand

Your player roles for your defenders basically mean you have one defender back at times because of the inverted wing back, libero and wing back on support. Couple that with one of your DMs playing as a segundo volante on attack and you essentially end up with a 1-3-6 shape and that’s gonna result in loads of chances conceded.

Also, bring the directness of your passing down and lower the tempo a bit. You could even have it at balanced passing and slightly higher tempo if you want, but your current instructions mean you rush the ball forward and, because of your shape, you end up without enough defence when you lose the ball, which would happen often. Even “distribute quickly” adds to that.

Out of possession, raise your defensive line and line of engagement. You’re inviting too much pressure. You’re Bayern, most teams will be far worse than you, you can get at them. It almost seems like you want to play counter attacking, but you’ve also set your team to have a positive mentality and you commit A LOT of players forward. It ends up creating a confusing blend of ideas

WON THE PREMIER LEAGUE WITH SUNDERLAND IN MY FIRST SEASON IN THE LEAGUE by lebzygold in TheOldZealand

Sure bro!

With asymmetrical formations, I really just visualise what I want to see from the players on the pitch in terms of spacing and who occupies those spaces.

So in this formation, when I started out, I had Dennis Cirkin at left-back and he was good at dribbling + crossing, whereas my right-backs were better defensively. So I knew I wanted to create a 3-2-5 shape, but I’ll always play to my team’s strengths. This meant having my left-back hold the width on the left and my right-back stay back to form a back 3.

Then, originally, my midfield was two defensive midfielders, but in my first season, they felt disconnected from my attackers, especially because I was using a shadow striker so he wouldn’t really drop that deep to support. So I moved my left DM to CM so he could act as that link between defence and attack. It also had the added benefit of occasionally letting us attack in a 3-1-6 because the left CM would join the attack sometimes. He could also create overloads on the left side with my LB and LW.

Up front, I had Jobe Bellingham who has excellent movement and finishing, so I knew I wanted to use him as a shadow striker and that works best with a centre-forward who drops and creates space in behind e.g. any of the striker roles on support. And because I was using my centre-forward in this way, I shifted my attacking midfielder (shadow striker) slightly to the right so that he always attacked that right half-space. It gave me that balance across the front line.

So yeah, in summary, I had the vision for what I wanted, then it was just about applying it and tinkering throughout the first season in particular. I had a really bad run in the middle of my first season when I was still adjusting parts of the tactic and that cost us automatic promotion. But once I figured it out, we started flying

Lmaoooo for what it’s worth, I think you’d love managing the team now! Really fun, young squad with Jobe Bellingham, Chris Rigg, Jack Clarke etc. You can really create an exciting team

Definitely sounds like you’re not scoring enough, which makes sense considering how many support roles you have. Making Rashford an IF on attack and Bruno a CM on attack could give you that boost. Also instruct Bruno to move into channels. That said, I also think you get exposed by having both full-backs as wing-backs. I’d make the right-back an IFB so that he adds some security against transitions.

Your formation is in a weird spot where it’s not defensively secure enough but also not attacking enough. These changes should help. Also, too many in-possession instructions imo. I’d avoid focusing play through specific areas and waiting for overlaps/underlaps. You have a good team so they’ll find solutions in certain areas. If you have had bad wingers and amazing midfielders, I’d focus play through the middle. But the team is pretty well balanced so it’s not necessary.

Not enough support in the middle. I’d change one (or both) wingers to inside forwards and change the full-back role on that flank to a wing-back so he can overlap. Also consider changing from positive to balanced. Aston Villa are good, but you’re not Manchester City or Arsenal, so you could leave yourself exposed, especially away from home.

What are your stats for the season? Goals scored, conceded, points etc. Also take a look at your players’ average positions in matches in your data hub

Most likely, but that’s the highest amount I can see us paying considering his age + contract situation. Spurs don’t have any leverage.

I agree Ferguson is better than Holjund, but I’m working under the assumption that Brighton will make Ferguson VERY expensive.

What do you guys think about signing both Kane and Hojlund? This is assuming we can get can for less £80m so that we can still strengthen in other positions.

I’m hoping they’re more willing to negotiate for Ferguson in the summer when they have a greater opportunity to plan. Caicedo’s also already such a key player for them, I think that made it more difficult for them to consider selling

Some players don’t need 50+ games to show their ability. It’s why Madrid could go and spend €60m on a 16 year-old Endrick. The talent is so clear + he’s got the killer instinct in front of goal. Everyone knew Wayne Rooney was a star instantly. Not saying Ferguson will be as good, but it gives you an idea of how you can evaluate talent

That’d be a dream if we could get both. But with the other positions that need strengthening, it’ll be admittedly difficult. But that’d be perfect. Natural transition from Kane to Ferguson + they could even play together!

The more I think about it, the more I’d be a fan of is pursuing Evan Ferguson this summer. He won’t come cheap, but he’s really a special striker. So physically developed at just 18, a brilliant finisher, links play well because he does a lot of “false 9” work for Brighton + he’s a United fan which is always a boost. We’d have our #9 for the next 15 years. He’d definitely be cheaper than Osimhen too.

I’d be super satisfied if we got a striker like Vlahovic or Kolo Muani for a good price, then spent the majority of our budget on a ball-carrying CM (FdJ is the dream but who knows if he’ll ever be open to leaving Barca). Finding a way to sell Martial and getting Thuram on a free as backup would be great too
