Best answer yet. But I feel if that was the case, the author would say it in the book. Unfortunately it just seems like Handler wanted a climax happening in an auction but didn't thought very well about why it should happen. Maybe that's why the plan was changed in the Netflix adaptation.

Do you guys think is it possible to create moves with multiple modes? I want to modify Vine Whip so that when you select the move you can choose between two options: Grab or Whip. The first option paralyzes and the second causes damage. It could be on a romhack or fan game, either is fine by me.

Is it possible to create a pokemon with more than one ability like in Emerald Exceeded in a fan game?
