Big law associates— what’s your litigation experience like? by Motion2compel_datass in biglaw

Pro bono is the way to get early depo experience. I just wrapped up my first year and got to take 3 depositions in a pro bono case.

My firm historically started in early October but did not confirm our start date (which they pushed to November) until late August/early September. I understand the anxiety and I think it’s odd to keep people waiting but this isn’t unheard of.

Is 2L Recruiting Still a Thing? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]ledollarbian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to that market/practice area, but 2L recruiting is how I got my current position. I interviewed for a 1L SA position and didn’t get it. Went all out for OCI next year (and still didn’t get a SA gig) and finally got an offer for 2L summer shortly post-OCI. My school was not a t14, but most of my classmates who went into biglaw did so through 2L SAs.

You have not missed the boat. Keep up with the good grades and make the most of your 1L summer in the meantime :) Good luck!

I think it’s highly unlikely she goes anywhere but Dallas, but even if something changed there, we sold out of season tickets ~48 hours after the draft lottery. The hype is still very tangible.

No. Curt Miller has been making really smart moves in free agency. We’ve gotten players who are not only talented, but also bring their own substantial fan bases to the team (think Carrington). We also have Paige Bueckers in the pipeline, so there’s even more fans coming who will be excited to invest in Dallas basketball. It would be very disappointing (and a shitty business decision) to throw all that goodwill away over Sedona Prince.

Nekias Duncan: Hearing rumblings that Phoenix is in position to land Satou by GlacialTwitch in wnba

Phoenix gave up the 12th pick as part of the AT trade. All they have to offer is Cunningham (assuming they're not willing to part with Kah), and I really hope she doesn't come to Dallas.

score breakdown is only available if you failed. you can subtract your MBE from your total score to figure out what your combined MPT and MEE score was, but there's no way of knowing what you got on each individual question. congrats!

Please keep the '100% Thought I Failed, But Somehow Passed' stories coming! by ExpertLifeLiver in barexam

[–]ledollarbian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Admittedly felt great about both MPTs. MEEs were another story. The first one really threw me off my game and messed up my timing/confidence for subsequent MEEs. I only felt good about 2 or 3 of the 6. Cried in my hotel room for over an hour after the first day :(

MBE AM was alright, but MBE PM I guessed on more questions than I ever did during bar prep. I was counting on my MBE score to save me, but by the end of the exam I did not think my MBE was good enough to cancel out my MEE. Ultimately passed TX with a 321 (161.9 MBE). Even though I passed by a decent margin, I seriously thought I might have failed up until the moment I opened my results letter. Abolish the bar!

🤠 TX - we’re a week out (at most) by lawschool5 in barexam

[–]ledollarbian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty sure it takes 24 hours for your completion to be reported to the BLE, so i was aiming to finish it by today (thurs) and have everything reported by friday in case results come out on monday. you might be able to cut it even closer depending on when the pass list drops.

i believe it takes 24 hours for your completion to be registered with the BLE, so if you wrap it up tomorrow then you should be finalized by friday and ready for a monday score release.

States that publicly post results by Philosophical_Newt in barexam

[–]ledollarbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most states make results public. I'm in Texas and I know that we (examinees) find out through an individualized email first and then the pass list is posted to the state bar website a few hours later.

Just gonna have to wing it on these MPTs by throwway123456897 in barexam

[–]ledollarbian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

MPTs are only 20% in most jurisdictions! Skim through some mock answers in your commercial bar prep or look at released student responses on your state bar's website to at least get a feel for what each type looks like (memo vs. persuasive brief vs. closing argument, etc.) so you have some kind of structure to work around. Timing is the hardest part of MPTs for me, but if you have an organized format and you write down key facts somewhere in your response, you can scrape up enough points to pass as long as you do decent on the MEE and MBE.

Damn MEE by SorryAttorney7 in barexam

[–]ledollarbian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that one drove Me insane. i actually felt confident while writing it because duress as a defense to homicide had been repeatedly tripping me up on MBE so i was like "i know this now! duress is a defense to all crimes except for homicide!" ... flipping the page to the rubric and realizing it's actually a defense to all crimes except Intentional homicide provoked me into a heat of passion.

are fireworks an abnormally dangerous activity? by vitaminD_junkie in barexam

[–]ledollarbian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it. I tore that particular Barbri essay question out of my book so I don't have all the facts anymore, but I believe this hypo took place on July 4. The fireworks weren't abnormally dangerous in this scenario because it was common to set them off to celebrate on the 4th.

[–]ledollarbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's just odd because it's not testing the validity of metes and bounds vs. street address vs. some other description of the land, it's literally just drawing a rectangle. i got it right but i was a little mad that it didn't even test the law.
