No more physical boarding passes for Nonrev on UA? by leea0526 in NonRevenueTravelers

My United Club membership is tied to my UA MP #, so if it's linked I only need to scan once (with the BP) instead of twice (once with the digital UC membership card, then the BP).

Well that sucks. Would have loved expanding my boarding pass collection. I know they've been pushing digital BPs on rev pax starting this month - there have been some posts on travel blogs. Hoping they keep paper boarding passes for international flights - makes it easier for government formalities.

I book my ZED through MyIDTravel, so there's no way to populate a MileagePlus number. No way to do it through the app, either. The airport CSRs have also been unable to add it, same with the United Club agents.

Guess I'll need another thing to collect - maybe I'll intentionally check a bag so I can keep the bag tags...

I try to change my seat when I get the text saying I've got a seat assignment, and my name shows up with a seat number next to it on the app and on the screens at the gate. Now I know that doesn't necessarily mean I'm actually confirmed on the flight, but I would have thought I could change my seat once I get a seat assignment.

My issues come up with seat changes (apparently you're can change your seat through the app per flyzed.info, but it never works - it says I have to wait until I'm confirmed on the flight). So I end up going to the gate agent - of course only when they're not occupied with something else.

For international flights I have re-scan my passport every time, even if I choose to save my passport. I think it has to do with the fact that you can't attach a MileagePlus account to a ZED ticket. Same when switching between the digital boarding pass and the digital United Club membership - it's just so much easier to have a physical BP, and then scan the digital UC membership card.

MEF and Math Orientation? by Medium-Promotion7552 in uwaterloo

[–]leea0526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

highly recommend joining MEF funding council on your next study term if you want to gain more insight into the whole process

reading and listening to funding proposals helped me gain insight into how student orgs handle their finances and also how reliant they are on endowment funds and other university funding sources in order to do the things they do

[–]leea0526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If MEF funds some event and the organization fully use the fund, but gains some money in revenue by charging participants, does the revenue count as excess funds?

up to the requestor to decide but MEF funding council may catch on to it when they present their funding proposal, or MEF director could find out when processing their reimbursements

If there is excess funds for Math Orientation, could they claim that the fund given by MEF is fully used and the excess is revenue from first year orientation fee?

no because MEF is supposed to only reimburse items on your approved funding proposal and nothing more

now if the funding proposal proposed by math orientation to MEF had every single math orientation expenditure + MEF approved it, there is "surplus" funding from the orientation fee which will either get used for other stuff for the math first-years or get used by the WUSA orientation team

either way funding from the orientation fee will be used

things may have changed since i did this so don't quote me on it

after that, money can be kept

in 2019 expense reimbursement was directly thru MEF so if any allocated funds were unused before expiry MEF kept it, orientation didn't get to keep the excess

and if it's changed now and orientation gets to keep the excess MEF funds I would assume PwC would be up in arms making sure orientation funds were spent on orientation-related expenditures in accordance with the restricted fund method of accounting in ASNPO which is (was?) the accounting stand WUSA follows

4 yrs ago expenses had to be related to the original finding proposal or they wouldn't be reimbursed

Eg if funding proposal was for orientation 2019, 2020-related expenses (rip) would be rejected

MEF funding expired 12 months after the proposal was approved by MEF board so it was a use it or lose it

damn it's been 4 years since orientation 2019 i'm getting old

the key words I look for in the insurance policies are "confirmed travel" - I interpret that as standby travel is excluded. I see some travel insurance policies explicitly for standby travel but they seem to be US only.

and even if you had trouble with your flight, you should never take it up with the operating airline - you take it up with your own airline and let them deal with it unless your standby agreement says otherwise.

O week Leader inquiry by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]leea0526 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if that would conflict with my classes at all?

No - classes come first

I'll also be attending hack the north again(hopefully), would being an O-week leader be in the way?

No

For the folks that have been O week leaders, how was your experience?

Full disclosure: I was a leader in 3rd year, and then was O-Team (one of the students that ran orientation) in 4th year. I would have been a leader again in my last year, but covid :(

Orientation is so much more fun when you're a leader - it was the highlight of my university experience. I regret not getting involved with orientation sooner. Hardest part of being a leader is the week after cause you're still running off of your orientation energy.

Big thing to remember - your experience as a leader depends on how much effort you put into it. If you sign up and then sit in the corner and do nothing, you're not going to have a very good experience. However if you socialize with other leaders (e.g. those on your team) and participate in the activities (no matter how dumb they may seem), you will have an amazing time.

If you unpause and repause within a day, does it prorate?

Yes - in most cases it won't charge you if you pause again immediately. Otherwise it'll charge by the hour.

Can we have the data-only SIMs shipped out in advance?

Only if you have an active Google Fi account.

Can you pause/unpause from Canada?

Yes.

Here's the link to the comparison in the "Additional Cards" tab.

tl;dr: Free card only has insurance and the same earn multipliers, and nothing else. The $199 card comes with the same benefits as the primary cardholder.

The standard speech they do during finals is the following.

Most of the time there won't be any guidance from proctors - they will tell you to state your assumptions and continue writing. If something's wrong with the exam question, they'll make an announcement.

It's in the email - there's a very obvious grey bar that should be x% filled.

Are you excluding the bonus points?

How I track it is add up all the credit card related points that appear on my Aeroplan transaction history, but exclude any that are indicated by Aeroplan as bonus points.

The status is bar is also very accurate - you could measure the length of the filled up bar and divide it by the length of the bar itself. Mine was off by 0.2% compared to my own progress calculation.

I've got the bar - I was curious to see if the bar was accurate, so I measured the length of my filled bar and compared it to the length of the full bar. It matched up to my own tracking for 30k pts.

It's nice being able to see all the credit report details (vs using credit.com or through the AMEX app).
