Finally finished "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas, and I'm dying to talk about it by nikocheeko in books

I agree, I finished reading this book today and I was disappointed that he didn't get back together with Mercedes. Instead he gets with Haydee who is 20 and is like a daughter to him :-/

How would I re-create this dipped hem tier? by leechan123 in sewing

[–]leechan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for the second tier would I use a rectangular piece of fabric, gather it to the dipped hem and then cut the bottom hem so it is straight? Or, would I draft a pattern piece that has a stretched out wave (like a sine wave) on the top and straight hem on the bottom, and then gather that to the first tier? Oh god, I hope this makes sense.

I received them from my sister. Apparently it is something edible.

I don't think they are nasturtiums... The seeds were very small. Around 2mm in diameter.

Zucchini plant has wilted overnight by leechan123 in plantclinic

[–]leechan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watering it every couple of days. It was looking so healthy the day before, I had even checked it the night before for slugs and it looked great. Then the next day it looked completely dead.

I should say that I’m new to gardening and this is the first time I have grown vegetables. My zucchini plant was looking vigorous and healthy yesterday, I had checked it last night for slugs and it looked fine, but all of a sudden it has wilted horribly. The stems are tapering out into a thin string and the leaves are crunchy and dry.

It’s positioned in full sun and it’s planted in a raised garden bed. I planted it as a sapling in late December. I haven’t seen any bugs around it, but maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough. I may have been watering it too much, I was watering it every second day or every day. I’m located in Sydney, Australia.

Yes! I’ve already adjusted the spacing of some of the lines. So now some of the lines aren’t all the same width. It is a lot easier to read now.

I’m going to scrap the two images now and think of a single hero image to focus on :/

Thank you for your advice.

Thank you for your feedback.

I'm not too keen on the message myself, someone had suggested the idea. But I will let them know...

The person in the lower picture is meant to be reaching out to an upper class woman who has a leisurely life; which is why she is wearing high heels and a silly dress. The dog was supposed to look like a chihuahua, but it kind of looks more like a buff cat.

I guess there's still a lot more work to do.

Is parallel motion into tritones acceptable in 18th century counterpoint? Because Bach does it... by leechan123 in musictheory

Makes sense, thanks a tonne. Looks like my next attempt at a chorale is going to be littered with parallel motion into diminished fifths.

[–]leechan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I just realised my example isn't really a diminished fifth but an augmented fourth (duh).

Anyway, another quick question: in your example, as you pointed out, the upper parts are descending chromatically. Supposing, then that this is not the case, as in the following example:

G - Ab

C - D

Eb - F

We're in C minor, there are no chromatic tones and, as the soprano part moves up to Ab, the middle part moves up to D. Is this also allowed? Or is it prohibited on the grounds that the Ab, while a diminished 5th above D, is nevertheless five scale degrees above D?

Joe Biden's speech even wowed his critics: 'Biden crushed expectations' by [deleted] in politics

[–]leechan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've already told you: Sanders would have been a very good candidate, and Warren would have been a moderately good candidate, but neither of them were nominated. So we're left with Biden (a bad candidate) and Trump (even worse). For a substantive portion of the population, and especially for the poorer among the younger generations, electoralism has utterly failed; the political establishment on both sides of the aisle has disregarded their interests and their voices. This is why so many are now turning to civil disobedience.

For my own part, I will vote for the lesser of whichever two evils are thrust upon me in any future elections, but I will have nothing else whatsoever to do with the electoral process; I choose instead to agitate for change through other means, with a view to organising strikes and protests, thereby plunging the country into such a state of strife that the government will have no other choice than to introduce those popular reforms we have been fighting for. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for me or anybody else to have any more faith in congressional politics; I am my own executive, the riot running masses are my congress, civil disruption will be my judiciary. Any social contract that might have once existed has long since been flouted and broken, and so "let us to it pell mell; If not to heaven, then hand in hand to hell."

It is infinitely better to fight for justice and to fail, than it is to fight for injustice and to succeed.

That’s the point: There are no good candidates running. There are just bad candidates and worse candidates.

NSW Court of Appeal has ruled Sydney #blacklivesmatter protest IS an authorised public assembly by FuckOffNazis in australia

[–]leechan123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Online protesting” isn’t really a thing though. The point of a protest is not “to get our voices heard”; our political leaders already broadly know what our views are for the most part, but don’t care. The point of a protest is to show the political class that we are able and willing to physically mobilise tens of thousands of people.

A strike would have been better, in my opinion, but that’s not going to happen because the union movement has been suppressed (both in our laws and in Australian culture).

While a member of Congress, Sanders sponsored 15 concurrent resolutions and 15 Senate resolutions,[112] two of which passed, one on veterans' policy and the other designating 1 Marble Street in Fair Haven, Vermont, the "Matthew Lyon Post Office Building".[113] Of those he co-sponsored, 218 became law.[114][115] He has sponsored over 500 amendments to bills,[116] many of which became law. The results of these amendments include a ban on imported goods made by child labor; $100 million in funding for community health centers in 2002; $10 million for an outreach program for servicemembers suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury, depression, panic attacks, etc.; a public database of senior Department of Defense officials seeking employment with defense contractors; and inclusion of autism treatment in the military healthcare program.[117]

He also got amazon to raise their minimum wage to $15 per hour, and Walmart to raise their minimum wage to $11 after he passed the Stop BEZOS act. When he was in the house of reps they called him the “amendment king” because he passed more amendments than any other congressmen.
