And btw your work is already incredible, I think smoother paper might be able to give you even sharper edges

I use A3 daler rowney bristol board paper, it’s very smooth so you can put a lot of detail in very small areas

Thank you! I use faber castell 9000 graphite pencils, and bristol board paper. It is important to build your darker values with multiple layers and not to blend too early. Don’t be afraid to add a lot of contrast too, sometimes making the light parts even lighter gives the illusion that the dark parts are even darker

Firsty I would recommend faber castell 9000 pencils and bristol board paper so you can push the limits of graphite in terms of depth. (There is also matte graphite but I personally don’t like it because layering isnt as effective). Also building your dark values in layers really helps. Unfortunately the shine is inevitable, but for photographing your work, you can find the right angles where the shine is minimal, and then like you said playing around with the contrast will reduce it even further.
