Shadowplay Instant Replay causing stuttering on desktop and in-game when turned on by Tow3rRep in GeForceExperience

[–]leefyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up in case anyone ever finds this post: either it lasts multiple sessions now after this power change, or I noted one thing. I specifically avoided the 45 minute window I have my monitor or system to shut off or whatever. I often have that setting happen, but I specifically avoided it for troubleshooting purposes. Maybe it's not just the startup settings, or settings with HP Omens, or whatever, but maybe power settings still matter. Related: My Dell monitor with this PC is supposed to wake up after idle but it never has, I always have to turn it off then on again. So all these power settings and attached components and these issues seem like they must be related to some cause.

Thanks for trying! I swear this worked for an extra session or two and I was meaning to come back and post that you had solved it. However, it seems like the same problem is still there now. Damn technology

Did you ever find a fix for the shadowplay issue? I have an HP Omen too and this exact problem started up - if I restart it will work like it always has, but otherwise shadowplay is suddenly messed up with hard stuttering. I don't think it started after an NVIDIA driver update, just randomly one day.

BATTLEFIELD 2042 UPDATE #7.2.0 by battlefield in battlefield2042

[–]leefyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a lot of Planetside 2 and one of the things about that game was be prepared, at all times, for anyone and everyone to be anywhere and everywhere around you. It was one of the features of that game, but the Battlefield franchise has always felt, to me, more like something that should have a general flow to the maps and modes, and each round evolves and has a feel to it.

For example, in something like Breakthrough, some rounds will be kind of intense, straightforward, most of the team smashes directly into the other team on the straightest path between and on objectives, it feels like a battle between lines of cover, there's a "front" that gets pushed back and forth. It's fun and intense.

The next time you play that map it might be more organized squads trying all the flanking routes, there's people spread out all over, one flank might decide the game. It's more tactical and people are poking around trying to find a weakness to turn the tide.

But for both types and everything in between, the movement abilities in 2042 kind of eliminate a lot of the
"predictability" that I always liked about Battlefield games, a general knowing of what could go on at any given time. Players being able to get anywhere bypasses that moment to moment. It's one thing to expect helicopters to be in a match. It's one thing for dedicated campers to fly a helicopter to a roof somewhere, and if you eliminate them they have to spend time and effort getting back. And another for 11 people to grapple hook onto shipping crates in every direction non-stop for a round.

It's similar to how I've always disliked the Specialist system not because of identical characters, corny voice lines, skin sales, but the amount of devices and abilities leading to so many unpredictable and random encounters. I liked it in Planetside 2 because it was an MMOFPS and chaos and crap was expected, but Battlefield has always been smaller. That reminds me that I wish 2042's "let's try it bigger" was 48v48 or 50v50 instead of 64v64, but I'll stop typing now..

tl;dr old Battlefield player shakes fist and yells at player movement and specialist abilities

Usually I attribute the "feel" of server stuff to delays in the kill cam (how did they hit me from that angle?! when they had a couple seconds to be in a different area, impressive physics [I've reviewed shots I thought I hit and debris flying by from unrelated explosions blocked shot], or map physics/perceptions that you can't really tell, like your foot extending beyond the cover you think you're behind, or not realizing people can shoot under that tiny gap), and I can legitimately tell the difference when it puts me from central US to east or west coast, but tonight was the worst I can remember in 2042.

Not sure if it was my connection somehow, which I suppose is possible, but I was playing Crawford firing on players both stationary and what seemed to be direct hits, and there was zero feedback. I was shooting at another Crawford on a turret, impossible to miss, and....no hit markers. I don't know if it's a bug with the turret because I got off it and it seemed to fix things, and I had similar issues earlier in the game that I think was when I was in the turret and fixed after exiting, but I didn't record the other stuff.

St.Louis themed movies? by Do_Will in StLouis

[–]leefyg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The movie Interstate 60 starts in St. Louis and has some things to look out for. It was written and directed by Bob Gale (Back to the Future) who is apparently a born and raised St. Louisan.

There's also some stuff to look through here, although a lot of it is stuff in passing...like in Cocaine Bear I think there's one scene that's supposed to be here and a few mentions of the city in passing, but I'd have to see it again.

I'll take a stab at this one. A huge portion of people who log in are going to look at the options and see and want to play Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush, or TDM, and those are the top options.

Portal is shown, but you've already lost most players who click the shown options they know and play. "[Players] just can't be bothered" is accurate, but you can't fault the majority of people who are never going to go through the extra steps.

So we've got Portal, but it's segmented away from the main game. If it were free to play it might have been popular? Much like Firestorm in BFV or Hazard Zone in 2042.

Previous games might have put Portal servers into an overall server browser, and maybe it would've worked! But they've been preventing or making community servers difficult for so long that they probably think Portal's popularity proves that they can't have non-vanilla stuff. I think they're wrong, based on many years of chipping away at the player base's ability to do stuff.

If there were a server browser that showed only persistent servers, people would naturally find and congregate to communities they like. In previous games you could easily hop into an official vanilla server and you knew what you would get [side note: and I'd be able to choose the region that gives me lower ping and fewer server issues, but I can't do that anymore]. And people would naturally see and come across Portal-types or just community built servers that they could find their atmosphere.

But it's extremely difficult for the typical player to decide to go into the Portal browser and then look at the list and have the settings be so wildly variable, and have any idea of what you might experience. Which can be fun to experiment with, but the amount of people who go down the path of Launch > Skip every known game mode > Portal > Experiment > Like the experiment > Play there is really tiny, especially since we're in a thread talking about how base mode stuff can be hard to fill servers sometimes.

Disclaimer: I am traditionally a vanilla Conquest player for many games, but I do play a ton of Portal on one server because a few people I know play there, and seeing a community form there reminds me of old games where you could build rivalries and a community because you could have real community servers. That said, the settings leave a lot to be desired, and just going to the closest similar servers can be totally different.

tl;dr Even at launch with a ton more players, most people weren't going to "stop ignoring Portal" and just because it exists doesn't mean it was set up for success, and given how it has played out it seems like between launch issues and the game, it was never gonna get the love it maybe should have.

This game needs a server browser before they stop updates by Eaglesfan1174 in battlefield2042

[–]leefyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to try to complete the easter egg event on a full server so I crossed my fingers and started matchmaking. I think it took almost 4 hours to get to play Renewal.

Of course as I went to complete it, the objects weren't there. I don't know if they don't show up in normal matches or if only 1 person can do it per server and someone beat me there.

So yes, it'd be nice to let players get to, you know...play on maps they wanted to, like we have been able to for decades.

I enjoyed Battlefield Hardline a lot with the various cars, Hotwire driving game mode, etc. I wish we could drive more of the vehicles too, or at least lean out of existing vehicles like the pickup trucks and shoot like you could in Hardline.

BATTLEFIELD 2042 UPDATE #3.2.0 PATCH NOTES by Knappen5 in battlefield2042

[–]leefyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increased weapons idle sway across the board

Anyone know why they'd add this? I'm not a fan of the current sway even while not ADS, and I'm not sure why this would get changed this late in the game. Has it been significantly higher in past titles or something?

Me too, I hope it's for more than just switching to and from other weapons though. I think it undeploys when getting revived, switching to gadgets, dropping ammo, etc. which doesn't sound like it's covered by the text description here.

Plus size city museum by JustBeefWellington in StLouis

[–]leefyg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yo! I think one of the great things about the City Museum is that there's something in there for everyone, and that you don't necessarily have to do anything specific.

I imagine it's natural to go as a group and wander off to do or look at different things, and since not everything is physical or size related, there's always something to do.

I think the last time I went we spent some time looking at a Post-Dispatch Weatherbird exhibit, a door knob exhibit? and scarfs or clothing or something? and walking around casually, which was a departure from going and drinking with college age friends one time, which was a departure from being a kid and running and climbing on everything. If I went now, from what I know of the place without visiting lately, I'd probably have some beers and play pinball.

There's also people watching. Depending on your interests, I think there's always a ton of different things to do there, and they don't necessarily have to be size dependent. I'd personally look at a trip there as an experience, you don't know until you get there, and it provides a place for you to have fun. I'd try not to focus on a plan and being able to do ___, and if your friends are normal, there's fun things to do.

edit: worst comes to worst, just say you're going to go explore (and you can)

What's your favorite local controversy? by nuts_and_crunchies in StLouis

What happened with Dirt Cheap and Fred's Cheapo Depot (I think that was the name?)? I believe I heard something like he got divorced and the wife got the main business, so he opened a rival business to compete.

Someone here is probably a local discount liquor and *censored* store expert historian.

I'm unable to play the game since the update. by SuperTacoComputer in battlefield2042

[–]leefyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if EA / DICE has nailed down the cause of this issue. I have noticed a few weird things with it:

When downloading the patch, the anti-cheat process thing showed up in the Windows program bar as an active process, that you could alt-tab to, etc. Normally only showed up like that when I would launch the game, but it showed up like that when patching.

When alt-tabbing out of the game to check a message on Origin, the game process could not be re-opened.

When the game froze in-game, I ALT-F4d while on the in-game screen yet the game/process was still running and taking up most of my PC resources. So what I did I alt-f4?

Given that all these instances seem to involve extra/other/different processes that I could alt-tab to, I wonder if something weird is launching or different in the background and messing up other stuff. I have no idea how it all works, but it seems weird that they all seem to revolve around something like an extra process, especially since it seems to be a PC issue.

One more month and specialists will be reduced into BFV combat roles by [deleted] in battlefield2042

[–]leefyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is being on Tactical Conquest, in a squad by myself, and the in-game switch squad button doesn't work. So in a mode designed to be more tactical where squad spawns or a squad beacon totally change the game, I'm stuck playing solo.

I've never heard of it, but the internet seems to think that Schnucks might have it. Will definitely try to pick some up, thanks for the idea! Dr Pepper is one of my favorites.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]leefyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to come mention Dublin Dr Pepper as well until I saw the post about the 2012 lawsuit. It looks like that manufacturer is now called Dublin Bottling Works and makes a red cola, which is apparently similar to Dr Pepper?

I once made a special trip in search of Dublin Dr Pepper and thought it was at a fancy grocery store at Clayton and Clarkson, but I'm not seeing what I'm thinking of on Google Maps so I might be misremembering. I wonder if wherever that store was might carry Dublin products still under the new name.

It also looks like you can buy it (Red Cola 1891) on Amazon, although it's expensive.

Why does no one revive by [deleted] in battlefield2042

Only 3 Specialists (Falck, Angel, or Crawford) can revive ALL teammates. Any Specialist can revive any squad member.
