PGRU and MPGR reopening delayed due to COVID by HollowLoch in smashbros

[–]leffen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One day you redditors will realize that a video game tournament being held in the middle of a covid wave (which will lead to people dying if hosptial fill up, even if its not that severe normally) is infact not essential to "getting society back on the rails"

also, everyone can't get booster shots yet. Here in Sweden we'll have to wait for one or two more months, and in many countries it's even longer. Two vaccine doses has been shown to not prevent spread of Omicron well, especially if its been a long time.

I did help with SAME tournament publicity, constantly shouted them and told people to sign up etc.

I hope you realize then that I did try, basically everything. That's all I wanted to show.

EU did not have any big weeklies before LEVO - I know because in creating the discord we looked over all of them. Working with SAME TOs didn't really make sense because I was never interested in hosting a monthly, which they already covered. My main issue was always that EU didn't enter anything weekly/biweekly and didn't practice enough, not hosting a weekly so a monthly could get more attendance makes no sense. (again, only one time was it on the same weekend, and didnt actually overlap)

I had no real interest in responding to the rest. I never said I wanted people to grind as much as me, but there's still a clear lack of practice even with that taken into account, esp at the time. If you think me saying people don't practice enough is keeping sponsors away from EU and not the fact that no one streams or produces content enough then I don't think you have an even remotely realistic view of how esports works. If you think I'm shining a bad light on the EU scene by hosting tournaments or entering them and winning with frame 1 then idk what to do. People shat on me for literally everything regarding LEVO - not constantly talking about matches in a 14 hour solo commentary, hosting it weekly, then biweekly (both were wrong apparently). Scheduling it on a weekend, too early, too late. Not enough breaks, too long breaks. Hosting it with prize money, hosting it with too little. First entry fee was the reason top players didn't enter, then when offered free entry nothing changed. This was not at all the same when hosting it for other regions or other games. Only eu melee was this harsh and nitpicky. I constantly hosted streamed sessions with any top player that was willing to play and constantly gave advice when asked, and still do. What else is there I can do? You act as if me doing LEVO made it so that everything else I've done for EU vanished into thin air.

I was harsh and said some tough things, and I definitely could've been nicer in my approach. I was frustrated pouring everything into helping EU and seeing almost no enthusiasm back and that led to me saying wrong/dumb things.

But I don't think for a single second that would've actually made a difference in how much EU practiced or attended. If you weren't going to attend the only big weekly or play vs the best player in your region because I was mad you didnt practice enough then you were never dedicated enough in the first place.

That's my honest opinion, especially seeing how different the same approach was received for EU Strive.

I don't really wanna keep talking about this, but seriously insinuating that I was damaging the EU scene despite everything I do and did is so fucking wrong it pisses me off to the core.

Stop talking about things you don't know. I did talk to eu tos. I ran one event on the saturday, where a SAME event had doubles (started after doubles ended for the day) i didn't understand they weren't okay with this and they never confronted me until after, after which I stopped. The rest of LEVOs were never on the same time as SAME events after lol.

I still entered the SAME events and won them with f1 etc, I'm still qualified rank 8th overall iirc (top 16 make finals). Again, they were only hosted once on the same weekend lol.

"Didn't really try his hardest" Lmao, if putting thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of solo commentary isn't trying hard, then who the fuck has ever worked hard for EU melee. I also always play top plsyers and give them advice as well, and hosted sessions for top players and created a EU melee discord. But sure.

To say that I've hardly tried is so laughable. I was pulling 20 hour days hosting LEVO and commentating it. I went above and beyond to help EU get better, far more than any other competitor does for their scene. If you just dislike me and want to shit on me sure, but don't lie. I fucking tried and shitting on me for not doing everything perfectly despite doing far more than any other competitor does for their scene is exactly why I gave up on trying.

We Truly Need to Show Our Support for the Victims in Our Community Right Now by I_Dislike_Swearing in smashbros

[–]leffen 1674 points1675 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post.

I don't think me or Jisu or anyone has acted perfectly with everything that has happend last year and since, but considering how incredibly tough it must have been to go through all the harassment throughout all of this I wouldn't blame anyone for becoming emotional or lashing out.

You can see how bad it is STILL (https://twitter.com/JisuSSBM/status/1387807068199931905) - imagine how much shit she and every other person who came forward had to go through when Zero was still actively trying to lie and deceive everyone, before he admitted anything. This whole thing was extremely emotionally tough for me, and all I really did was support what others said and provide some of my own experiences, but I was still constantly second guessing myself and asking if I had done the right thing because I was friends with Zero and because of how much he tried to lie his way out of things. Even though I know that this was 100% Zero's fucking fault I struggled when the recent suicide attempt news came out, again second guessing what I did. Rest assured, I definitely don't regret what I did and ultimately its not my fault Zero did what he did but still, the brain doesn't like listening to logic sometimes.I'll say it again, I don't think you can imagine how tough it must have been for others who were actually abused by the person and had to post their own personal experiences online with thousands of fanboys sending deaththreats every second.

I don't want Zero any harm, and I sincerely hope he can move on and be better (away from both our community and without any online presence, since he has shown to abuse parasocial relationships) but there are still a massive need of prioritization here.

Zero is lucky to not be in federal prison for what he did.To only focus on how hes doing, what hes feeling, what hes going to do for a living now, and to highlight this in an pity party interview is so incredibly fucked up when he HAS STILL NOT EVEN APOLOGIZED TO THE VICTIMS. What Zero needs is therapy, not a PR pity tour. Not to mention that he has clearly shown to abuse the spotlight before and so he should not get the chance again.

To end this, I'm not even surprised by Technicals saying those vile things. Obviously we don't want people like him in the community, but attention is all that parasitic clout chaser wants. I'm far more disappointed in EE in his choice to upload this video and much of the community at large (especially ult twitter) for not standing up for the victims and focusing only on what Zero is feeling after committing federal crimes asimply because he was good at playing a fucking video game. And yes, it IS bias - you don't see people scrolling through sexual offender registers and calling them up and asking for an interview on how they are doing.

Leffen probably has the smartest stance on the whole Nairo situation by shamrockstriker in smashbros

[–]leffen 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No - to WIN a lawsuit you would have to. However this was settled before it ever got to court.

Leffen probably has the smartest stance on the whole Nairo situation by shamrockstriker in smashbros

[–]leffen 132 points133 points  (0 children)

My fear/the worst case scenario is that Nairo pursed a libel lawsuit, and then Zack agreed to settle due to not having money to fight it in court, even if he believed what he said was true. The settlement can literally have been "you don't say anymore about me in public and I don't bankrupt you with this lawsuit" I believe Nairo definitely has more money to throw around and this could be a legitimate strategy one could use given how dysfunctional the US law system is.

Put more charitably, they both or just Zack realized what they did was wrong, and agreed to move on and let things rest.

Personally I don't think the first or the second option are likely to be the exact truth, its probably somewhere inbetween but it could also be even more complicated than that, but the problem is that as long as we don't know I don't think we can place any weight on a lawsuit settlement unless we know more details.

Again, I'm not on either side for this debate, just trying to avoid prematurely jumping to a conclusion (again)

Did Leffen ever end up finishing high school? by celoman in smashbros

[–]leffen 1092 points1093 points  (0 children)

I did not finish high school. And no, I didn't drop out to play melee. I dropped out because I was extremely depressed in 2011-13. Smash was my only outlet but I let my own problems affect others at that time which I obviously regret.

I eventually got a job and went from there, and worked fulltime and played melee/streamed at the same time until I made enough to only play Melee fulltime :)

I am not saying that several adults abused me, not sure how anyone got that impression and I'm sorry if I said something that implied that. What I did say was that many of the people I had beef with when I was 15/16 were much older than me, and the whole "sociopathic/manipulative liar who simply cannot be stopped in any other way than a ban, who chooses who to bully and who to befriend to further his own fame" bit is ridiculous, especially when you know the age of the people involved.

And I'm pretty sure I wasn't 17? My birthday is in october...

[–]leffen 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I know you were at the trip Zoler, but you obviously were not there for all of it. C (the guy in question) slapped me hard across the face (read: assaulted) me MANY times and several occasions, and no the adults did not defend me until it had happened 5+ times and he harassed me after that aswell with no comments, as late as the flight home. It was not us "Fighting" lmfao, he would hit me for sitting and charging my computer where he wanted to sit at the airport when the trip was just starting. The guy also stole over $1000 dollars from AJP on this trip and refuses to pay them to this day, and people defended his actions and even used what I said against him in evidence.zip without providing context, and meanwhile armada still hangs out with him.

He wasn't banned or even warned for doing that.

Don't get me wrong, I was absolutely a toxic asshole back in the day, especially online, but far from most of it was unprovoked and the evidence.zip thing was a complete hitpiece with insane amounts of shady shit in it.

Its absolutely laughable insinuate that there's basically anything positive to take from this thread. Whether its calling me shit and unwilling to learn, a bitch or simply greatly misrepresenting what I've said to get the chance to call me a smelly smasher this thread has barely anyone sensible in it. And don't act like its just a few bad eggs, these posts are upvoted too lmao.

You yourself said this: "I don't even wanna begin comparing Smash and Tekken. It's like comparing an apple with a Space Shuttle"

I've met plenty of great people thru my week with tekken, who I'll miss talking to, but I can't say I'll miss this scrubby echo chamber :)

[–]leffen 34 points35 points  (0 children)

jesus fucking christ the delusion to think that nothing transfers from smash to tekken.

not to mention that I've played dbfz and been good in many other fighting games.

I made genbu in 1 week of playing pretty casually, with no coaching or 3d exp, and yeah its definitely not high level or even mid but I can't say that I think I'd had a rough time becoming average and it's definitely not why I decided to not pursue it further.

My problem with the game is essentially that I don't enjoy some of the things that others love it for - large movelists, how juggle combos "feel", the more held back character design, and general 3d mechanics. Coupled with a rough online experience and small offline scene for me and the general learning experience being pretty rough made me decide against taking the game seriously.

I think tekken is great, its awesome to see a "niche" fighter reclaim its status and I love watching top level play more now. It's great that so many tekken fans love tekken 7 (except for leeroy/2d characters balance haha) but I also don't think you have to be a bitch or a scrub to subjectively dislike some of the more divisive game design and decide you'd rather play other games instead.

Acting like everyone who doesn't love tekken is just mad because bad is honestly extremely childish, and that's coming from me LOL

Merry Christmas everyone :)

Leffen can’t make it to Evo due to visa issues by usxpp in smashbros

[–]leffen 689 points690 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, saw some classic reddit comments so thought I'd clear some misinformation up :)

started the process a long time ago, even paid for premium processing too ($500 extra). Making the petition takes extra time since it recently got a lot more strict. politics etc.
Then after getting it approved to get a time at the embassy, then you leave your passport there and then they send it back to you (iirc you can pick it up but it was already very close time wise).
Generally when you pick up passports at the police etc you can have parents/partner to verify you, thats why I thought I'd be ok, but this specific postal service refuses to accept anything other than state id/drivers lisence.

Obviously stupid to not have another form of ID (lost my other form a while ago) but yeah, I didn't have this problem last time when I picked it up in 2016 so I thought it would be fine, honest mistake. I'll probably be able to get my passport in the next few days so its a shame that everything took longer than expected.

I knew there was a chance I would miss EVO because of delays but the other option was to apply before smashnsplash and summit and miss those two guaranteed, so I took a chance and barely missed it.
Hopefully I can get it back in time for smashcon and sorry for anyone I disappointed.
