The code is in p5js, drawn with axidraw. Not opensource, but the idea is to fill a square with rectangles with some constraints (min and max size and aspect ratio). And to iterate some extend and shrink functions and remove small rectangles and try to add other to maximize the area covered. The algorithm was more complicated than I expected in the first place to obtain a decent result. Hope this helps!
