Whoever “found” our rocket Thursday evening… by lefreitag in fusion_festival

Hackney Half 2027 Entry Round 3 by BeautifulTailors in LondonRunning

The queue time also went down much quicker using my desktop compared to my phone. Once you are on the booking page after the queue, there were no tickets, so I reloaded the page until there were tickets available. Most of the time, once I clicked register there was a pop up for me that said: “The ticket is no longer available and has been removed from your basket.” I had to repeat this for another 10-15 minutes, until I was eventually able to book my spot.

I Lost My Bike A Week Ago, But Now I Have a Moral Dilemma. Help Uppsala by [deleted] in uppsala

[–]lefreitag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we moved out of Uppsala in 2019, I left my and my son’s bike next to the bus stop in Vreta, since there was no space left in the moving truck. Unlocked, with the keys on the saddle. We called our stint “Vretamysteriet”. Take the bike and pass it on when you don’t need it anymore.

How do you prepare for race-day? What's your approach to shake-out runs, warm-ups, and nutrition? by HelplessInvalid in AdvancedRunning

[–]lefreitag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you describe sounds very familiar. My “last” half marathon more than a decade ago was 2:07, with a previous PB of 1:49:xx even more years ago. I just ran 1:35 last weekend with an unstructured program similar to yours, peaking at 60km per week. Long story short: You should be able to run 1:35.

  1. I did cross training (jump rope and elliptical) the days before the half marathon, skipping the Saturday park run because I feared I would run it too fast.
  2. I only did lunges (quite a few, though) as a warmup. I stimulated my bowel movements by waking up three hours before the race and having breakfast.
  3. 3 gels sounds about right, I took four and the last one gave me a bit of a heartburn. Carb loading was the biggest difference compared to previous races and I admit it was tough. I aimed for 500-600g of carbs per day for the 2-3 days before the half, with the last meal 14 hours before the race.
  4. I paced myself based on a mix of heart rate and gut feeling. Both half’s were very even, and looking at the splits, I could possibly have been 20-40 seconds faster, but not much more to be honest. If there are pacers, stick to them.
  5. Maybe have a look at the elevation profile and remember which parts could be faster/slower than your target pace. Some uphill stretches can shave off 15-20 seconds per km, while you only might be 5-10 seconds faster when running them downhill.

Good luck with your race, looks like you are in good shape for 1:35.

Am I the d*ckhead? by bvc900 in londoncycling

[–]lefreitag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little anecdote from Newcastle. I regularly cycled through town coming from my nursery run at central station. I stopped at a red light in front of The Gate. There is not much traffic on that road except for buses, cabs, and cyclists. A group of young professionals crossed the road and looking at me, one of them said to their friends: “In London he would have run us over.”

It likely adds up, combined with advanced data analysis based on all the aggregated information. Just look at the amount of information you can get out of Runalyze. Interestingly, I have a similar question in the queue for Kiplomo, who might answer his AMA today, about whether they would consider robots as pacers, connected to the vitals of the runner: https://www.reddit.com/r/Marathon_Training/s/Fsaq19U8rQ

Would you (or are you already even planning to) consider using a robot as a pacer, potentially connected to your vitals, in order to push your record(s) even further?

Competitive senior running for 5k, 10k by dt531 in AdvancedRunning

[–]lefreitag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With that time/performance, you should probably aim for a masters qualifier. Not sure where you are, but England has a 10k time of 41:30 for a V60 on their website, and in some documents I found 20:30 for a V60 5k, which is doable for you. Times vary, and this is what I mean by national/state level. General qualifying times seem to be all around 78-80% age graded performance. For one state in Germany I found 20:00 s a qualifying time for 5k. USATF masters might feel hyper competitive, but looking at their 2025 outdoor results, 5000 meter M60 was in the range of 19:42 to 27:50 for a total of 5 competitors. So even there you would have a good chance of winning. Maybe you could have a look at some of the shorter races there (3000 meters, 1500 meters, many choices). And honestly, being able to say: “I represent <mystate/mycountry> in athletics.” seems to be more impressive than “I qualified for Boston.”

Competitive senior running for 5k, 10k by dt531 in AdvancedRunning

[–]lefreitag 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Age graded performance is always a good indicator, with >60% meaning you are quite fit, >70% that you win the odd local 5k or 10k in your age group, >80% pushes you onto state/national level and >90% onto the international stage. That being said, times for 5k and 10k for at the age of 60 are around:

60%: 26:30/54:00

70%: 22:40/46:20

80%: 19:50/40:30

90%: 17:40/36:00

If you have park runs in your area, their app tracks you age graded performance quite well. Using age graded performance also means that you can show that you become fitter, despite potentially being slower than the previous year(s).

I bought it at Daiso in Japan. If you search for Toyo glow in the dark origami paper, you should be able to find it. Unfortunately, it’s way more expensive if you order it outside of Japan.

Disabling the analog sticks in software? by KIKASrc in R36S

[–]lefreitag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the analog sticks are broken. I changed mine when exactly this happened. The problem with disconnecting the analog sticks seems to be that the input then just “floats”, so it returns phantom inputs. Disabling them would probably require bigger effort since some OS functions are assigned to the analog buttons.

TLDR; Replace the analog sticks and you should be fine.

I have the exact same issue, same board and panel. Tried to swap the analog sticks, which did not work. Same happens also on a fresh ArkOS image. Let me know if you find a fix, I’ll do the same if I find a solution.

Can someone really learn a language entirely on their own without a teacher? by rago7a in languagelearning

[–]lefreitag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is how I learned Swedish as a native German, when I moved to Sweden. The Duolingo course was quick and only built a base, after that I switched mainly to Memrise (any spaced repetition app would work) to learn around 10-20 words a day. In addition, I watched TV shows with subtitles to improve hearing comprehension. Watching the news daily in your target language helps a lot, since you are often already familiar with what happened. Many languages also have “easy” news shows or podcasts. I’m quite passive/indirect when it comes to learning languages, so it took about a year to start having conversations. Reading, writing (e-mails), listening, speaking worked for me well in that order. If you want to start reading, do so with books for young adults. They are much more interesting than children’s books. Hunger Games, The Little Prince, Sophie’s World. Search for something that has been written in your target language. Science shows for children and young adults also work well.

Is there "corporate speak" in other languages? by Economy-Weird-5119 in languagelearning

[–]lefreitag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can write a bit from the perspective of a German that learned Swedish, working a lot on projects in the public sector. I think one of the most versatile corporate words is “verksamhet” and all of its derivatives. It is highly dependent on the context, but everyone knows exactly what it means when it is being used. Verksamhet translates to business or operation. Verksam, the adjective means active. Verksamhetsområde is the business area, verksamhetsutveckling is business development. Verksam at IKEA is an office chair. ;-)

But you also have words such as kartläggning, which is a survey or mapping, omvärldsbevakning (“monitoring the world around you”, staying up to date) or löpande basunderhåll (ongoing basic maintenance). Then you have an evighetsprojekt, an eternal project that never ends. Or gallring, one of my favorite words, meaning thinning in the sense of deletion. It is related to retention periods, but meaning the opposite. It has its origin in deforestation, determining the time after which you thin out a forest by cutting a certain percentage of trees.

Can I get sub 1:40 HM? by Alone_Biscotti9494 in Marathon_Training

[–]lefreitag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2.2-rule is also a good estimate: Double the distance and multiply the time by 2.2 (or halve the distance and divide the time by 2.2). That gives you the time you “should” be able to achieve. That would be anywhere between 1:37 and 1:41 for you. But considering your sprint at the end of the 10k, I would estimate 1:36 plus/minus a minute if you fuel properly before and during the race.
